Urban Youth Academy Summer League Information

Dear Academy Members,

The pre-draft workout for the Summer High School League has been set for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19th at the Academy. The purpose of the workout is to assess player skill levels and draft players to teams, which will be formed with the objective of achieving competitive balance. This is a developmental league and all players will receive maximum playing time. Those who have already submitted an application are set to attend the workout. Summer League Financial Assistance

Dear Coaches and Players,
The Urban Youth Academy is happy to announce that case by case financial assistance is available to individuals who cannot afford the $250 sign-up fee for our summer high school league. Those qualified individuals will be responsible for community service hours at the Academy. We are also happy to announce another extension to the registration deadline. Applications are now due by May 17th, two days prior to our scheduled pre-draft workout at the Academy.

This message is to inform you that the mental toughness courses are to be taken individually and by appointment only. The 30-minute lessons are taught on Wednesdays and Fridays between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please let Coach Frost if you wish to fill any slot.

Dear Academy members and parents,

Please see the attached baseball and softball schedules for May 2013. You may save the schedules to your computers/smartphones or print them for your convenience.

Also, if you or your child has yet to complete the anti-harassment training please be sure to come into the front office during your next visit and do so. You do not need an appointment. The training takes three minutes and is very simple to complete.

Dear Academy members,

We would like to remind all members who have not taken the anti-harassment training that it is mandatory for you to do so. Attached is the consent form to be printed, signed by a parent or guardian, and turned in to the front office beforehand. The training takes just a few minutes to complete and is very simple. It is our wish that everyone who visits the Academy be educated on this subject, therefore your participation is required.

Please be advised that Compton College is doing major construction to their parking lots. Therefore, we ask that all Academy members and visitors park in the paved lot closest to the Artesia Blvd entrance. Parking on the grass/dirt lot will be unavailable until further notice.

Mental Toughness Sessions

Mental toughness sessions are back this April! The sessions will help players identify their personal issues that may negatively affect their performance. Various strategies will be taught to help players overcome these issues.

The sessions will be led by Academy pitching coach, Coach Frost. Please see the attached April baseball schedule for session days and times. Greetings,

Being mentally tough is essential when playing the game of baseball. Mental toughness is vital when making it to the top! Ask any scout or coach and they will tell you that a player's mental and emotional make-up is often underrated because it so difficult to see or measure. But believe us, when two players of equal ability are evaluated, the one who is mentally tough will win out.
