Dear Upstate Locavores,
We hope you are having a wonderful summer and have taken advantage of all the great opportunities to get fresh, local produce.
The Upstate Locavores are holding their early fall potluck on Thursday, September 3 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson at 226 Pendleton Road. The theme will be the Slow Food organization's "Time for Lunch Program", a national day of action to support getting whole, healthy foods into schools. Information will be available about South Carolina food policies, congressional renewal of the Child Nutrition Act, and the food in our upstate schools (more information about Time for Lunch is at www.SlowFoodsUSA.org).
Each
person attending should bring a dish made with at least one locally grown or produced
item. Dinner will begin at 5:30.
We
would also appreciate it if everyone could bring their own tableware
(silver, plate, glass) - this makes clean-up much easier. And, please bring a friend or two! We'd like to get as many people involved in the "Time for Lunch" campaign as possible.
It's always fun to see (and eat) the wonderful dishes that people prepare with local ingredients. At the Upstate Locavores Spring Potluck in May we enjoyed a variety of dishes made with local ingredients (see our website for a list of some of the mouthwatering dishes that we enjoyed that evening!). And, if you are willing to share your recipe, please e-mail us at UpstateL...@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you next month!
