Memory overlays and addressing errors are difficult problems to
diagnose and service. Growing software size and complexity further
complicate the situation. Many software components in the AIX®
operating system share the kernel address space.

POWER6™ processors and AIX Version 6.1 now have storage protection
keys which the kernel extensions and device drivers can use to improve
the reliability and serviceability of the system.
