Welcome to the Google Group for our 'Unix and Perl for Biologists Primer'. We think that more biologists should learn how to program, and so we created this course to help them do just that. This started out as a grad student course at UC Davis, but the positive feedback we received convinced us to make all of our course material freely available to anyone who wants to learn Unix & Perl. The course is very much aimed at people with no prior experience in either programming or Unix. If you complete this course you will hopefully learn enough to be able to write programs to interrogate, refine, and process such data.
The full set of course materials is available from our lab website, but you can download just the latest documentation from the Files section of this group. We intend to use this Google Group to help people who are having problems with the course material and for any other relevant discussion of Unix & Perl in a biological context.
