I sometimes need to remind myself that there's life outside the browser. :) There is, of course, and desktop applications like libreoffice and thunderbird are important to many people. Now that people will soon start to have remote storage accounts, we can help make that more useful for them by adding connectors for desktop applications.

So here are two projects up for grabs:

libreoffice cloud sync (Thorsten made a start with this this summer, but it's not finished yet)
Thunderbird cloud sync (new)

So Thunderbird now has pluggable storage, which means that you can use whatever storage you want. So the plan here is to create a storage backend for Thunderbird (based on the default one), that has a background process to push all changes to remoteStorage, and also when you log in, fetch change from there, so that multiple devices sync seamlessly.

So if anyone is enthusiastic about the possibilty of using thunderbird in combination with remote storage, then this project is waiting for someone to start working on it!

You could do this simply in your spare time, and you could also try to get funding for it (Google  Summer of Code would be an option for example).

So yeah, just putting this out there in case anyone wants to pick this up.

Cheers!
Michiel
