Subject: Notre Dame as unconf venue 29 August 2008

I just spoke to Alison Nearn at Notre Dame who has been watching the emails
on this group, so is up to speed.

Stephen McVey was keen about the idea, but is not back until Friday and will
contact me after then.

I asked whether we could have access, on 29th August,  to:
1. A large space where all participants could meet up, to be used as a
breakout space during the day and meeting up in morning and afternoon.
2. A PC training lab
3. Two or three rooms which fit 30 people each
4. A large space where lots of librarians could eat and chat over lunch (I
liked the way we catered, so didn't lose momentum with people drifting off
to lunch)

I forgot to ask about wireless access - which I think would sway the whole
thing. Am cc-ing her in on this email so that she knows :)

Matthias, you suggested that UWA *might* be amenable to hosting an unconf.
Would you have venues/wireless/avilability at UWA ?

The other thing we considered last year was Town of Cambridge library /
meeting spaces ...although they charged for them and we wouldn't want that
...maybe they would dontate the venue?

( I still like the idea of State Library, but it would disperse the group if
we were in several small rooms I think.  I kind of like the idea of using
the Auditorium. Are we wedded to the 29th as a date? I think people are
overseas during the July country librarians week... is Sept too late if we
can get the right venues at SLoWA?...)

Cheers,
Kathryn

Thanks for investigating Notre Dame, Kathryn. I don't think Freo is a bad
option, as it is relatively easily accessible, and there are lots of nice
food venues we can use.

UWA would be a nice alternative if that's at all possible. Curtin does have
some space that we could possibly use, but the problem is that our network
is restricted for Curtin people, and I don't know how easy it would be to
open it up for people on the day. (Pity, because we do have good wireless).

I am not at all attached to 29 Aug as a date, and if we need to do it in
July, so be it. I will be overseas but that's okay (am still happy to help
with organising etc).

Thanks Kathryn and Lucia for checking all this out.

Let's see what Notre Dame says re wireless and network options. Freo
good venue re transport/food.

If not my choice would be State Library on 22nd Aug.
As per Lucia's specs:
The other option for the 22nd August
22nd August - Great Southern Room 9am to 5pm (limit of 75)
Gadget breakout next to Great Southern Room.
Breakout rooms from 10am to 3.30pm
-       Seminar Room 2.9 (24 people)
-       Midwest Room (18 people)
-       PC Room 12 noon to 5pm.

I'm not that keen on the SL Theatre venue with dispersed breakout
rooms, as it's not so conducive to F2F networking, so would hold out
for the Gt Southern Room.

Hi
As the 22nd is the week before the regional librarians come down they
might still be convinced to come down early and stay the weekend
before rather than the weekend after - I'm not sure but maybe.

That's just what I was thinking Lucia. My choice would be State Library as the regional librarians can drop by in-between meetings/exchange.
