Hi!

I'm searching for a UML tool that can comprehensively 3D visualize a big
(class) diagram.

Something like a crossover between Google Sketchup and a proper modelling
tool - or a tool which uses an XMI export as a base for its 3D
visualization.
Ideally it would provide an interactive presentation mode (add layers,
'zoom' into entities to add details, etc) and a video export.

I've been evaluating some tools - but what I've found are more or less
just PoCs.

Can anyone suggest such a tool?
Or has anyone even got some experience with this?

I don't know of any offhand, but I haven't been paying much attention
since retiring.

However, I am curious why you want such a tool. I can see how 3D
rendering would be kind of neat and it could provide a better
comprehension of, say, a Component Diagram describing a complex system's
subsystems.

But in the end all one is doing is eliminating crossovers of lines like
associations. IOW, what matters is what is connected to what and that is
pretty clear in a 2D UML diagram. That's not in the same league as
trying to visualize how, say, some complex mechanical device is put
together.

I guess what I am asking is: Do you see some value in the routine use of
such a tool that would justify the cost of its development?

I don't think there is any good UML 3D visualization tool but I know a
couple of prototypes (probably not mature enough for what you need but
you may want to take a look):

I haven't seen 3D visualization in UML, but Hyperbolic tree systems have
been around for years and I think they would work nicely.
