"Towards Human-Centered, Constraint-Based, Multi-Dimensional Data Mining"

Among many methodologies for data mining, we believe that human-centered,
constraint-based, multidimensional mining in large databases is a promising
direction to pursue. Constraint-based mining means that mining is
performed under the guidance of various kinds of constraints provided by
users or experts, where the constraints usually confine the part of the
data to work with and the expected forms of the knowledge to be generated.
Multidimensional mining views a database in the form similar to a data
warehouse, consisting of multiple dimensions and measures, with each
dimension organized in multiple levels of abstraction. Human-centered,
constraint-based and multidimensional mining integrates both
constraint-based mining and multi-dimensional mining into one framework and
provides an interactive, exploratory environment for effective and
efficient data analysis and mining.
In this talk, we examine the issues related to human-centered,
constraint-based, multidimensional data mining: (i) classify different
kinds of constraints; (ii) propose an architecture for integrated
constraint-based, multi-dimensional mining; and (iii) study the
methodologies for efficient implementation of such intergrated data mining.
In particular, we focus our discussion on the efficient methods for
constraint-based, multidimensional mining of association rules. Moreover,
we predict that constraint-based, multidimensional mining will be a
promising direction for mining other kinds of knowledge in large databases
as well.
