Yeah I came across that a week or two ago and was wondering what the
benefits are. I couldn't read the description. Is it in dutch?

What are the benefits to this modification? Are any of the people from
fablab in this group?

Count me in for wanting to read more. Something you could floss without
disassembly would be quite nice..

The comment that reversal is a software issue (vs the nature of bowdens) is
pretty interesting - yet another bit I'd like to hear more on...

Hi guys, this mod has been made by the group of Roman Jurt from the Fablab Luzern.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but driving the filament from 2 sides will give huge amount of grip.

That's a mod we (the group that built their UM in the FabLab Lucerne
(Switzerland)) are currently engineering: ABS did not work for us at all:
The extruder was grinding away all the material and did not transport
anymore. Roman Jurt (the FabLab manager) has constructed this version which
seems to work quite well. We'll be working on it this Friday and keep you
posted as soon as it's stable.

Thanks Ramun for the info - this looks really neat!

Just got an update pushed from your website:
http://www.drs.ch/www/de/drs/themen/digital/283813.3d-drucker-franzis...

Great video, it's nice to see the extruder mod in HD & I love the
Swiss German... "ganz ganz dünnes Würschtle"

Keep up posted on your progress :)

hi guys!

finally i made it here!
i just updated our fablab page with the latest version of the new
concept.

http://luzern.fablab.ch/new-ultimaker-extruder

worm-gear works like a charm, there is a lot of power, no digging in
yet...
simple abs prints (like legobricks) have a surface i have not seen
that smooth in the past ;)
the extruder seems to work reliable - i have not tested it to much
with pla yet - but it seems to like abs;)

it is quite a big package now. i have not spend to much time in
material- optimization yet...

plans and material list are on the way. (the is not one special part!
all simple screws and things from the hardware shop...)

i'm locking forward to some more tests and to your reactions!

Roman

This looks very interesting id be up for putting one together and
testing it out. Are you using a heated bed with the ABS?

No, we're just using the provided acrilic bed as is, covered with the blue
tape - or even without the blue tape.
