I would appreciate advice on which company to use for a single user
VOIP service (using a standard VOIP adapter) which can supply a VOIP
Service and Spanish Geographical (standard rate) phone number. So far
the best I can find was Gradwell at £9 a month rental for the Spanish
number (or £12 a month Voiptalk) + the call cost etc. A English
speaking company would be a BIG plus, for me.

We install Internet via Satellite services, mostly for people living
out in the country, who cant have a landline. Dont want to make any
money on the VOIP service, but also dont want to recommend a VOIP
service, that turns out to give my customers grief.

Thanking you in anticipation
Mark in Spain.

Voipfone do number in the UK (£2), F, D, NL, B, S, I, IRL and CH.
for £3 per month, but sadly NOT Spain
see https://www.voipfone.co.uk/prices_european_geographic_numbers.php

IMO a UK number might be better because it is £1 per month less, there is no
incoming call charge (2p / min for a Spanish one, even if you are in Spain)
and calls to Spain are only 1.5p/ min. We have already used Voipfone from
D. NL and IRL with nil problem, and I would not expect problems in Spain.

Are you intending to use the VoIP service over the satellite internet link?
The only satellite internet service I've any experience with had a minimum
latency of ~800ms, and often much higher, which will be utterly unusable for
VoIP. I suggest you do some pinging before expending too much energy on
looking up VoIP providers.

Not much you can do about it either* - the turnaround time in a call is a
minimum of 0.534s.

When transatlantic phone calls went via satellite the delay was very obvious
and with the telco's operating the link in half duplex conversations could
be difficult. It would be alright for social calls, but a PITA for
business.

Completely ignoring the latency issue, Localphone offer numbers in Spain,
for £3.90 setup and £2.40/month all including UK VAT. Call rates a
pretty decent too.

However, as others have suggested, try the service yourself over the sort
of link you're wanting to provision to ensure it'll even work.

Thanks for the input everyone. Went with Localphone.com in the end,
less than 3 for the number rental per month and the call rates are
good, but have a couple of problems, which I will post seperately.
The latency thing is detectable, but not half as bad as I was
expecting.
