I'm trying to compile a list of who supports call waiting and if it is
supported on the PAYG tarif. This is because am involved with a
charity that take calls from hospitals. It'd be nice to know if
another hospital is calling us when we're on the phone.
This is what I have so far -

This missing ones are T Mobile and Three - couldn't find any info on
their website.
I'm not sure if it's worth including other companies like Tesco as
they just use other networks. So presumably features are the same?
Cheers.
Peter.

Thanks for that.

ASDA has call waiting

Orange support call waiting for all contract customers and for some
older pay as you go customers.
and they wonder why their expensive patronising TV and Cinema commercials
ain't raising numbers
Steve Terry
Well it wouldn't be the first time a customer service person has told
me a lie rather than explain the truth!
I did ask her explicitly, "not even if I had a contract" and she said
"no". She explained that the network could not support it. There is
also no mention of it on their website.
Either way - if they do support it but don't document it or admit to
it, no use to us.
Shame as I have been with Orange since they only had 2 phones to
choose from. I switched to PAYG too many years ago to remember - not
long after they introduced it I think.
Cheers.

Just thought - my wife has an Orange contract phone. I couldn't see
anything in her manual or phone settings for it (though I did find
call divert so I think I was in the right section).
Can you tell me how to enable it?
Thanks.

I did the last step first - a "call waiting enabled for voice calls"
type message came up. I tried it out and it worked - I got a bleep
and a message on the phone when another call came in - this is with
Orange contract. So the lady at the customer care told me an outright
lie.
I tried that with my Orange PAYG and the "check" option said it was
not enabled. I tried to enable it and it came out with a "not
available" error.
With the menu's - strange that it's not even there on the Nokia
contract phone yet that supports it. On the Samsung PAYG, the menu
option is there but it's greyed out and apparently doesn't work. I've
not tried to switch SIMs - don't want to break anything!
Seems uswitch.com thinks I should be on Vodafone or Virgin so I'll
have a look at that.
Cheers.
Peter.

Historically no PAYG network started with the availability of call waiting.
Most but not all, now do.
Of those that don't, GSM codes will not work
Peter had done the right thing and put them all to the test

But for choosing a mobile phone network the calculations are beyond any
search engine

You might be right - but it's certainly beyond me!
Seems like they all charge the same price per min for normal calls and
texts. Then there's all that messing around with favourite numbers
and top-up deals which I guess makes it pretty much impossible to
compare. I think I'll look at other features.
First: choose one that has good coverage in the areas that you are
going to use it in
Second: choose a network that offers inclusive mins and or text
to the network you call most.
e.g, Three offer an extra 300 mins p.m.or unlimited to other Three users.
Lycamobile offer special PAYG deals to other on network users, etc, etc
Third: choose a phone that has features you need and want, picking one
with features you'll never use will probably only cost you wasted extra.
I'm sure others can add a fourth
