T-mobile billing errors

Is it just me, or is T-mobile's billing absolutely RUBBISH!?

For the past few months, when checking my pay-monthly statements I have
each time found stuff I've been charged for wrongly for or 'out of
bundle' and had to phone up to get them altered. The speed at which they
aquiesce and give me the credit does leads me to suspect I'm not the
only person affected.

This month was a classic - I'd been given a 'Reward' of 25 free
international texts (ie to be used by me when roaming). When I came
home from the Canaries, I found that I had unused 8 of them, yet 6
appeared on my bill as charged for. Even worse, 5 of them were charged
at 40p each rather than the correct 11p; ie I'd have been complaining
about that if I hadn't been on the freebie bundle.

Oh well, only 2 months to go and I'm off to another network...

I've just left T-Mobile. They refused to stop charging me for calls to
a UK mobile number - 07822 - and instead take them from my flext
allowance.

I've now written to them asking for a refund and if that isn't
forthcoming will make a claim via the County Court

What reason have they given you for not refunding you? At least with me
there's been no problem with obtaining refunds once I've whinged.

They've come up witjh a number of reasons, but the best two are that
07822 is a Personal Number range and that it is not technically
possible.

Their price list booklet states:

"What's a UK mobile call? This is a call made within the UK to a
customer of a national GSM network. These are what are commonly known
as mobile networks. At the moment, the national UK GSM cellular
networks are Hutchinson 4G, O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile. Calls
to one of the mobile operators exclusively using their networks (e.g.
Virgin, Tesco, Fresh) are treated the same"

My argument is that as the 07822 8***** number range has been
allocated to C&W, and C&W are exclusively using one of the main
operators network, then it should be trteated in the same manner as
Virgin, Tesco & Fresh.

There are 9 other operators that have been alloctaed number blocks in
the 07822 range and they are also being treated in the same manner.

I've given them until mid December to reply - I'm not expecting a
sudden outbreak of common sense though

That's a good thing to try, though I don't think it is exactly
right. C&W actually has its own spectrum license, and operates
its own network of picocells in people's offices, so C&W's use
of the other operator's network isn't exclusive: it is more like
roaming, like 3 does with Orange, when out of range of C&W's native
network. The wording in T-Mobile's booklet hence seems explicitly
designed to exclude C&W.

Of course the only reason I know this is that T-Mobile and C&W
made all these arguments in their pissing match about termination
rates which was adjudicated by OFCOM, i.e.

The C&W termination rates OFCOM ended up imposing on T-Mobile were the
same as Vodafone's and O2's so these aren't expensive calls for T-Mobile,
but I guess T-Mobile is still pissed off about something.

Call termination pricing in the UK is just so screwed up.

Fair comment. However the pico sells that C&W uses, or plans to use,
in peoples offices aren't available to the public. effectively they
act as a PABX. When the customer leaves his/her building and is
outside the range of the picocell then thy piggyback on one of the 5
national GSM networks in exactly the same way as Virgin, Fresh & Tesco

Daughter's T-Mobile bill came in yesterday - included 12 GBP for calls
made to a single standard UK mobile which had been inexplicably charged
for as out-of-bundle.

"Right" I thought...

This time the agent was having none of it, and advised me that this was
a zone 4 international number, and had been correctly billed. She
wouldn't budge; I asked to speak to a supervisor and she hung up on me.

I then established from daughter what number it was had been called - it
was a friend's, who's on Vodafone and in the UK - absolutely nothing
'unusual'. Phoned back and the next operator was more helpful, and
agreed to the refund more or less immediately.

I do wonder WTF is going on with T-mobile, and would urge anyone on a
contract with them to check their statements *very* carefully.

My guess is they currently have skill shortages?

Their contracts have little to offer, and why they insist on undercutting
their own PAYG tariffs with all their parasitic virtuals offering better
rates
is beyond me?
