It's time for a new phone. I think the 7650 looks pretty cool, and has lots
of useless features. Just my sort of phone.
CPW will do it free, on Your Plan 200 at £30 a month. Sounds good. I
currently use OVP Virgin with my 6510 and get bills of about £20-£25 a
month, a large amount of this is WAP - I must check my email oooh, 2-3 times
a day, for about a minuite or so each.
I'd probably want to change to to either OVP Virgin (And pay the subsidy
charge - is it still £10 a month?) or the HSCSD plan - which would be the
best to change to? Can I use the Orange Data Access thingy on the Data Plan,
as they won't let me have it on OVP Virgin?
I've been told by a reliable source I cannot change plans for 4 months - is
this a new thing, and when did it start from, becuase I've never had a
problem before?
Cheers.

It's a good phone but is very big.

£15 now

High speed data plan is only £10 per month and includes free care.

Hmm, not sure but I don't *think* so. Could be wrong on this though.

CPW (and most, if not all retailers) now include a clause in their terms and
conditions of sale that if you change to a lower tariff within the first 4
months then they reserve the right to clawback their loss in commission. As
to the legality of this and whether it is ever enforced is a completely
different matter. I have a number of friend that have changed to lower
tariffs inside 4 months and not one of them has ever had money clawed back
(but that's jsut my experience you understand).
The interesting thing is that when I last purchased a phone from CPW (over a
year ago now) the T&C's were on the receipt that I received AFTER the sale
had been completed. This fact initself meant that they were not enforcable
but it may have been that the shop assistant missed out a stage of the sale
procedure (i.e allowing me to view and agree to the terms BEFORE completing
the sale).
Yes, you are right. I've had a play and think I can tolerate the size.

£15? Good lord, that's a rather irritating raise given that the deals on
phones these days are less attractive than they once were, so presumably the
subsidies are less...

Can you confirm that since the advent of the Your Plan things, I can still
move to the High Speed Data Plan?

Might give them a call to find out.

I am aware of the dealer situation but my friend specifically said it was an
*Orange* policy now. I cannot find anything on the site to back this up,
however.

Nice to know, thanks..
I changed a few days ago. Granted the first person advised me that the
tariff was not available despite it being on the website. The second
advised me that I could change :)

When I changed over I only had the phone for a few days, so if it is a
policy then the customer service peeps know nothing about it. In fact
the impression I got was that there were quite a few people who have
done the very same.

Same thing happened with myself regarding CPW. I had however asked about
commission clawback but was advised that CPW wouldn't chase me for it
if it was passed on from Orange.

What fun is being cool if you can't wear a sombrero?
Please remove your mind when replying.

I can't *confirm* it as I don't work for Orange. However, the tariff is
still available and I haven't heard of anybody not being able to move to it
(subject to the terms of the tariff of course).

Not heard of that before. As far as I'm aware customers are still able to
change their tariff every month without being penalised by Orange. If this
has changed then it is certainly a recent thing.
This, in my opinion, is one of the most stupid things about new contracts. A
customer can, or at least certainly could, take out a new contract with
Orange through a dealer that includes a term saying that you can't change to
a lower tariff within 4 months without being (possibly) penalised. The
customer then rings Orange who tell him that he can change tariff every
month if he wishes, almost encouraging him to do so. If ORANGE simply
changed their policy to not allowing a customer to change to a lower tariff
within the first 4 months (which wouldn't be that unreasonable and would
make Orange more money) then the whole issue would be resolved, once and for
all. It would also be much fairer for dealers.
£15, as of November 1st, 2002.

HSCSD. Still have Care.

Correct, you will need to stay on HSCSD to have the access pack.

4 months is Orange's Clawback period. If you downgrade before the retailer
will suffer a clawback.

Your freind is probably a bit annoyed and earning some ŁŁ from you, then
promptly losing it again. Clawbacks result in staff commission for that sale
being withdrawn.

Something all dealers would be very pleased with.
The 120 day period was originally 3 months but changed
in March 2001. Prior to this date Orange only enforced the
clawback on dealers that abused the system whereby the
percentage of downgrades was high, and therefore most
dealers were unaffected. Now the clawback applies to all
new connections.

Am...er.....looks like they need to look for another job. It's THEIR
fault if they agree to work under such conditions. Norman Tebbit,
where are you when we need you!

My friend is not selling me a phone.
I note your sig with interest. Is it really possible to unlock a 7650
remotely? This sounds very good indeed.
Phones4U said I could change the tariff at any time. In fact, they told me
Orange were the only company to let me do this.
When I called orange, they said I could change straight away, so I dropped
the cost to £17 a month!!
I've had no clawback or anything! (lucky?)
Indeed it is. Contact me off-group for more details.

Their sales staff always say this, they are measured on how many boxes they
shift, rather than the profit they make. They will say anything to get a
sale.

Phones 4U will have though.
You should have no problems.
