a) Which caller ID will the 0870 number receive? Is it Orange Mobile X or Y?
b) Will Orange Mobile Y incur any charges if it Everyphones to a 0870
number?
Thanks for help
David
Would imagine Y, but not sure.

Replace 'News' with 'steve' if replying by email.
If it is wrong, can you then give the right answer instead of just telling
people they are wrong.

Seeing as you've asked so politely...
You asked if caller ID presented was from Number X or Number Y, Ben
said Y and I said 'wrong' surely that answers your question?
Any charges to Number Y when EP'd to an 0870 number is not tariff
dependant it is the same regardless of tariff. It may be charged at
standard rate or may be free (I don't use EP on 0870) but is *not*
tariff dependant.
Ben claims to be the most knowledgable person when it comes to Orange
billing but doesn't understand how it works in the real world see
another example a day or two ago regarding ED50.
I've got nothing personal against Ben, most of his postings here have
been accurate and helpful.
Mobile X

It will incur it's normal charge for calling an 0870 number.

No it isn't. Different tariffs have different rates for 0870.

It is tariff dependant. If the tariff the OP is on costs 10p/minute for 0870
then he will pay 10p/min. If it costs 20p/m,in for 0870 then he will pay
20p/min. It's 100% tariff dependant.

The OP asked if he would incur charges if EP'd to an 0870. If this was
tariff dependant then some tariffs would be free and some wouldn't,
clearly this isn't the case as all are charged at various rates. If
your info is correct then I am wrong about all tariffs being the same
rate but that wasn't the original question was it?
I was under the impression that if you Everyphone to another landline
number, this call would be free. In other words, Everyphone has free diverts
and the Orange mobile won't incur any charges.
True?
Yes.
but if u are asking ref 0870, they are not classed as a landline.
Ben
hmm..... well, i might be proved wrong then, anyone know any different?
Ben :)
p.s. Just a few words about using this newsgroup... I've learnt allot from
the members here, and I'd just like to express my thanks to the regular
posters, it's always interesting to learn and discover new things, and find
out new ways of doing things. I have a debt of gratitude to all. Thanks :)
This thread has totally confused me! The original question hasn't been
answered.
If there are any further contributions can I ask that people make
reference to phone X and Y as defined by the original poster? Let's
forget phrases like "tariff dependent" or "tariff independent". They
mean nothing unless you define what you mean by "dependence".
Peter
Yes and no. Yes diverts to a landline a free, but not to non-geographic
numbers.
Mark Kelly knows about how to do this but he seems to have disappeared
>However, if you are EP'ing a handset on a tariff that has "inclusive"
>0870 calls, you might not be charged.
Surely there are no circumstances whereby EP'd calls are taken from
inclusive minutes?
Unless anyone knows different?
Perhaps the trick is to use the call divert option (which is chargeable)
instead of EP, then maybe calls get charged out of inclusive minutes first?
I don't know this is true - I'm merely suggesting it as a possibility.
Nadeem
I'd have thought it was Mobile X - and this is why.
I have my Line 2 number Everyphoned to Line 1, and normally if L1 then times
out unanswered, then L2 EP'd calls will get put back to L2 VPS rather than
L1. It's only by shortening the Answerphone timeout on L1 that you can get
round this problem. This suggests to me, that the L2 forwarding remains
intact unless something happens to it on L1, for example. I've re-read this,
and it almost makes sense - but I can't think of any way to put it clearer
:-(

sorry for the "LONG" delay in relpying. I was in Cardiff for a week.
to answer the orginal poster. About nearly a year ago now I for a few
months had an OVP virgin phone everyphone to just-dial number. I than
on my line 1 everyday 50 + line 2 chat 60 use it to call the OVP
virgin number. I used this method to make "peak" calls to landline
without paying for it.l (since for orange billing purposes I was
calling an orange number.) I was never charge for this. (just-dial
use 0870.)
now does this still apply now with the new billing system? I afaird I
do not know I haven't tried and no longer have chat 60 :-(
Mark
Thus can I presume it still works? I am thinking of getting a OVP Anytime
Max and calling Mikaels or Telesave's number to earn some cash
So if I use my OVP Anytime Max and call my OVP Virgin (got this account for
2 years now) which is everyphoned to a 0870 number....will I be charged?
It all boils down to the part whether the OVP Virgin can Everyphone to a
0870 number for free as I know the part where a OVP Anytime Max calling
another Orange (ie OVP Virgin) would definitely be free.

AFAIK, 0870 everyphone divert, on an OVP Virgin tariff will be charged.
Ben
you can not "assume that." for starters 0870 on ovp virgin is class
as standard rate number on orange. and when I last did it I did not
get charge and did it on couple of contract for a good 6 months. I
haven't done it recently but unless you have done it recently yourself
than saying it will be charge is actually wrong. it won't.
but to the orginal poster, since we are talking about starting up an
expensive contract to take advantage of it. I would advise that he
himself try it for a month and see. ie divert to say just-dial 0870
number and make a few test calls and see if he get charged. if not
than go ahead. if not come back and inform the newsgroup that it has
been patch up with the latest billing update they did in October I
think it was. (NB other thing even if it work today does not mean it
will work tomorrow and you can't call up orange and cancel the ovp
anytime max tariff for example cause of it. something you have to be
made aware of.
