My wife is starting a new job in the new year, she's quite technophile
(currently uses Linux on her desktop with Evolution).

Her new job will involve using the employer's MS Exchange server setup
and she particularly wants to be able to do that from her mobile.

Do all modern smartphones 'just work' with MS Exchange or does one
have to be careful to get one that works smoothly?

Any/all advice most welcome.

Android <whisper>and iPhone</whisper> ones do.

The big names "just work". I've seen my Android do it, and I know that
iPhones do so, too. Blackberry phones AFAIK require a special connector
server. I have no information on Windows smartphones but I can't see
any reason whatsoever why they couldn't work with Exchange.

You'll find that a side-effect of connecting the phone to Exchange is
that you have to set up a PIN lock on the phone. But I hope you'd have
one set already.

The server doesn't have to enforce that, though most admins will choose
to, similarly they'll probably insist you agree they can remotely "nuke"
your phone in case of theft/loss.

It sounds like Android is the way to go then, thanks.

Ah, yes. I'd forgotten that bit. Thanks for the reminder.

Cheers,

As others have said this is an "exchange policy" which the phone downloads
from the server - and is not always set!

My Android told me there was an "update to exchange policies" recently
while, unhelpfully, not telling me what had changed!
