Sagem Camera Phone

country. It is 179.00 Euro (ready to go no contract) its the cheapest phone
here with a built in camera and colour screen but the thing is that I cannot
find any websites in English to read about the phone can anyone point me in
the right direction of one or can anyone recommend or not recommend it on
here as the case may be?

Hi Andy
I brought one of these phones here in the UK last week.
I brought it having done no research, just compared the prices in the local
Vodafone store. I'm very pleased with it.
The more I find out about it, the better it gets.
My last phone was a Philips brick, so I don't know much about current
mobiles, but the people I've shown it to, who do know, are mighty impressed.
To me, the great things are:
much bigger screen than comparable camera/phones
having an Infrared port to transfer midi/wav/jpg/vcard/etc to and from the
phone and pc
having a picture of the person phoning you come up when they call
built-in hands free: when you receive a call, press the button again and the
inbuilt speaker allows you to leave the phone on your desk or in it's cradle
in the car to take the call
2 resolutions for pix taken with the camera- mobile resolution to display on
the screen, and high res (640x480) to export to pc
loads of other good stuff, I'm still finding out about all the features, but
it's one of those great products where the more you learn the more
impressive it gets.
Sorry to sound like an advert but I really like it, especially for 150ukp on
pay as you go.

looking for. 640x480 don't sound too bad resolution for a camera phone
because some of these cheap camera phones don't achieve even that resolution
do they. The infrared port to transfer to data to the PC sounds good
although my desktop PC doesn't have an infra red window on it. I remember
seeing Packard Bell PC's with this window on them years ago but haven't seen
them on any other desktop PC's so I wonder how you can still transfer data
to the PC - maybe there is an add on infra red port you can buy for the PC
that hooks up to the USB socket or something but I have never seen one
myself - other than that I wonder if the phone could hook up by cable to the
PC as well? I would like the facility of taking pictures with the phone
whilst out and downloading them onto my PC when I come home.
I like the idea of the picture coming up of the person who's calling that
sounds fun and I like the idea of having a speaker phone on it as well.
I am just wondering and a bit cautious why the phone is a lot cheaper than
all the other makes which are around the 300 Euro price. I suppose this
price in Ireland is good for that phone because 150.00 UKP would equal to
215.00 Euro and the phone can be bought in the shops over here for only
179.00 Euro.
The more I hear about it the tempted I am (shame the colour is only
available in pale blue - well it is here in Ireland) - Christmas is around
the corner, I wonder if its acceptable these days to buy Christmas presents
for ones-self these days? ;-)

yeah I brought a USB to IRda device from Maplin, also available 12 quid from
ebuyer:

A cable is available to go to a serial/USB port on your pc but I don't know
how much they are

had to after the shop assistant showed me one working!) and I am really
impressed with it so far. I am having a bit of trouble trying to find out
how to save email addresses onto it at the moment (so I don't have to put in
the email address every time I want to email someone) but its early days and
I suppose I will find out how to do it. The only thing I am a little
disappointed is that the phone dosent appear to have a stopwatch/countup
timer which would be useful to me at the moment and all my other mobiles
have had them in the past so its strange its not on this one. It has got a
timer on the Sagem but only a countdown one. I must try and suss out the bit
where the picture of the person that's calling you comes up on this phone as
well, I tried to set it but it shows only Icons it doesn't seem to link to
pictures inside the phone. I suppose I should read the manual that has come
with it but I am one of those people who fiddle first and read later!!
Overall pretty impressed for the price though and would definitely recommend
as a good entry phone if getting into camera phones for the first time.

You've probably sussed it by now, but you enter all details as a new contact
and save them

saving them to the SIM card instead of the phone memory, once I selected add
contact to phone then all the email and photo tabs came up - its neat
having the photo come up of the person who's calling isn't it.
I find the polyphonic ringtones a bit crap at the moment I have pushed the
volume up to 4 which is the highest but they are still not very loud - still
mind you I have heard polyphonic ringtones on some other phones that are not
very loud as well I don't know really why people rave about the poly ring
tones because most of them are rubbish sometimes I really could do with a
piercing ring tone especially when I have the phone in my pocket but Sagem
haven't included them in this phone. They haven't even included any
Christmas melodies which is a shame at this time of the year - I wanted to
be like all the other people who programs their phones with Christmas
jingles around this time! - I must see if I can download some better
ringtones to it.
I think I read in the instructions there Neil that to enable the
screensavers you have to disable the ECO mode in the setting then the
screensavers will work.
If I were manufacturing a new mobile phone I would incorporate a simple
photocell inside the phone which turns on or off the keyboard and LCD panel
light - you don't need the keypad lighting up in sufficient light and this
would save battery power. I have turned off my keypad light to save battery
on this Sagem but then at night I will have to enable the keypad light
manually which will be a pain. I found the LCD panel light was going off too
quickly so I have set that to stay on 30 Seconds now. I think in the
settings of the LCD panel they should have let you adjust the brightness
level of the LCD to help save battery power. For normal use you don't need
it that bright - admittedly for viewing photos you would need it at its
brightest.
So now my next quest(s) is to see if I can somehow program the hot keys
underneath the LCD because I keep accidentally pressing the blasted WAP
button on the right and connecting up - I want to either program it for
something else rather than to start WAP if possible and also on my other
phones I used to be able to assign a contact to a keypad number so a long
press on number five would call a friends number - I cant get it to work on
this Sagem - maybe it doesn't. If anyone knows.........
A strange thing happened last night I downloaded a Photo from my PC to the
phone using Vodaphone's MMS (cost 49cent) and it downloaded to the phone
grand but when I tried to add it to the contact book it wouldn't show up
even though it was there in the "my items/my pictures" folder on the phone -
I wonder why? - In the end I pointed the camera at the PC screen and took a
picture to add to the contact that way and do you know what it didn't come
out too bad at least it was a way of doing it but I must look out for one of
these IRDA to USB devices or a cable so I can transfer data from PC to
phone.

I am actually pleased to say that I managed to download a Stopwatch facility
with hours/minutes/seconds to my Sagem MyV-65. Because the phone has MIDP
2.0 Java it will accept utilities and games. I got my stopwatch from here:
http://spruce.jp/freemidlets/
And they also offer where you can download over the air to your mobile by
WAP and it was Freeware. Its a really good utility the only minus being that
when it is running you cannot use anything else on the phone and leave it
running you have to exit it first.
