Painted my L2 rocket over the long weekend... What an abortion! What's the
worst paint job you've managed to do on a rocket...? You'll see mine on
Friday evening, yuch!

All my worst paint jobs are deliberate.

HAMMERITE for ever.

I'm having a week of finishing ready for the weekend.

I'm going to stick a couple of pics on ABMR as practise.

Well, banging together a few little rocket kits ready for the weekend means
that as ever I have left everything to the last minute !!

Looking at my spraypainting handywork, I may just go ahead and reserve the
domain name "CrapPaintJobs-R-Us" and post pics on the internet !!

I wouldn't worry Bob, a) mine are fluorescent green ( remember the 80's leg
warmers ? ) and b) the paint kind of "spat" out of the can - may sue
Plastikote under the trades descriptions act for calling it "spray" paint
!!

Gotta finish building my ground support gear yet as well !! All before
Friday afternoon ! Yikes !!

Never mind.....at least I've found my tent now......( better hope it's
waterproof ! )

I had problems with plasticote fluro orange paint. Aparantly it's down to
the temperature you spray at. You need to be in a really warm dry place or
the paint just goes kak anything less then 20degs and any damp air then
forget it. Halfords fluro paint is much better goes on a treat.

Thanks for the tip Damian.
I'll pop and get some tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I'll have to work out how much bigger a motor I need to lift the
bloody rocket with all that crappy paint on !!!

A quickie - is it true that fluoro paints are weightier per millilitre ?

Isn't that what the police are now recommending people do anyway, it's
supposedly much harder to offload nicked garden tools and equipment if its
painted garish flourescent colours..... Here gnomey gnomey don't be afraid
this won't hurt..... Psssssshhhhhtttt!

I used fluo orange safety paint on one rocket, but all the overspray
hangs in the air and sticks to everything! After I painted the rocket I
noticed that the plants, the patio, the fence and my face and clothes
were all covered in tiny specks of fluo orange!

And after all that the b1**dy rocket is a dull rusty colour!

I can't remember which brand, but I'm pretty sure it came from Halfords.

I have found that with the Plastikote fluorescent paints you need to shake
them very very well to prevent it spitting. My flatmate taught me not only
to shake them up-and-down, but also to swirl them around. You should be able
to feel the ball rolling around the edge of the can base (if that makes
sense).
The Plastikote fluorescents seem to have a lot of solids which sediment and
are a real pig to get dispersed properly, and this helps. If your can has
been sat around for a while, I find it needs to be shaken and swirled for at
least ten minutes. The two minutes it states on the can is nowhere near
enough. I have gotten some pretty good results with the fluorescent orange,
as long as I shake and swirl it plenty before the first coat, and also
between. Did I mention that it needs to be shaken and swirled a lot to get
decent results? ;-)
James.

If you want to see really crap paint jobs, check out mr. Sweeney's jobs -

rocketkind
