Does anyone make a PVR that can be used for radio (FM or DAB)? I used to
use a TV PVR but Radio 3 is no longer broadcast on DTT in Scotland in the
evenings. Obviously I could uses a tuner and a tape recorder (I have all
kinds) but I like the EPG one-touch facility the PVR offers.

If you obtain one of the PVRs that has a built in DVD recorder, you will
probably find that it also has several inputs for external sources. There's
nothing to stop you feeding audio on its own to one of them.

This isn't quite what you are asking about, and it wasn't what I was asking
about when it was brought to my attention, but if you like recording radio
this is the most amazing bit of software.

Looks interesting. I've simply been recording the streamed audio
'manually' using Audacity.

I used to get stuff manually too, but using Total Recorder, but I haven't
since I found this. You can either get programmes individually or you can
"subscribe" to your favourite programmes and they just appear like magic as
soon as they become available. It will also get podcasts.

Thanks for posting that link - it does seem an excellent bit of software.

S C O T L A N D. They do things differently up there.
Perhaps a Freesat recorder, and of course a dish to feed it.

As far as I know the Topfield 5810 does not handle and record FM and DAB

Yes - of course, satellite. Then I need to work out how small a screen I
can read - I don't need a whacking great TV to set the EPG .

That's going to apply to any stand alone recording device. Unless it
allows you to programme individual buttons as channels. Rather like you
could do with many satellite receivers using the favourites function. I've
done just that with a FreeView receiver used only for radio.

Yes - I kept a Philips OnDigital box for this until DSO wrecked that and
BBC Alba stole the mux space from the radio channels. Now we have a TV
channel no one watches in place of a dozen useful radio stations. Hey ho,
FM quality is better anyway.

I have two basic Supermarket Vestel PVRs and they have a scrolling
display on the front panel and enogh buttons to select any channel
radio or TV, and start recording without the need of a TV or remote
control.

As for stopping the recording or playing back, forget it, you need
both items.

feature works OK.

If you can find an old Pure Bug - seem to be cheap enough on EBay - that
will do timed DAB recordings to an SD card using the DAB EPG.

Seems to be a feature that has been dropped from the current
Pure/Roberts ranges.

It is a straight dump of the MP2 stream so no quality loss though DAB
bit rates are a bit questionalble.

Rushed response - apologies. A neighbour was unable to record radio
(freeview) on his PVR and I found I could on the toppy and rushed to
answer the wrong question.
