When watching a previously recorded programme we are getting background
sound from the last station we watched on our TV. This has been
happening for the past few day.
Any suggestions?

If you're using a scart lead it could be leakage in the lead from audio
out to audio in. Also, does that Humax have a 'source' button on the
remote? Try messing with that.

Two no's, that model only has scart connectors and the remote does not
have a source button.

Do you mean you are using a scart connection between the Humax and the
telly?

Do what? It has composite video as well.

Oh yes it does. Just under the sliding flap, top left.

So it does! If I originally knew that I had forgotten.
I'll have a play around with that.

I tried that last night with little effect.

So ARE YOU USING A SCART CABLE? You must be. See if there's anything in
the TV set's menu that controls the audio coming out of the scart. Try
every scart socket on the telly. Unplug the scart at the Humax end,
see/hear if the unwanted audio persists. Try both scart sockets on the
Humax.

The last station from the TV tuner.

The problem with that is that you can get a background hiss that's
barely audible but actually degrades the sound quite a bit.

Make sure that the source on the TV set is always set to something like
Ext-1.

Have you tried the following experiments?

1. Get things going with an "irritating background sound" scenario
2. Use the Humax remote and turn down the Humax sound - any affect on the
background stuff?
3. Pull out the Humax-to-TV SCART - any affect?
4. Switch the aerial lead to be directly to the TV - any affect?

Basically these are all trying to prove that the Humax is fine and the sound
bleed through is happening within the TV. If true, then probably none of
the above will have any affect.

However I saw your comment about turning the TV volume down and the Humax up
so perhaps one of the above will have an affect in which case perhaps you
have TV sound going from TV to Humax via the SCART, then bleeding back via
the return on the SCART.

If that were the case, you could replace the SCART with one with only
single-direction (Humax-to-TV) connections or if possible, just remove the
ones on the cable you have.

s/affect/effect/

"to affect"
"the effect"
and sometimes "to effect"
but never "the affect"
