Does Mux A operate on a lower power to the other 5 muxes?
I cannot receive any channels used by this mux, the signal strengh
meter shows very low reading. I'm in Leatherhead picking up Crystal
Palace.

Shows the relative power of the muxes.

Looking at the Effective power graph which shows mux A as low, as well
as mux 2. I'm getting a very strong signal on mux 2 that is stronger
than the other 4 muxes which the graph shows as maximum.

Still confused!

That site isn't very good. Look at

It's a load of bollocks.

Mux A is Qam 64 which is not as resilient as QAM16 used by most of the other
muxes.

I have more difficulty receiving Mux A on channel 32 than the other muxes
from east of Sevenoaks and from the Hogs Back near Guildford. I get better
reception of the HD signal on Channel 31 though I can't decode it!

I am in the Crystal Palace fringe area on the Surrey/Hants border and got
exactly the same phenomenon as you with a wideband aerial i.e. mux A was
MUCH lower than the rest. I have just changed to an aerial of exactly the
same type (Televes X43) but group A instead of wideband. All muxes are now
about the same strength and 100% quality - even the two 64QAM muxes A and 2.

Thanks for that. Will investigate.

It turned up ok then? Glad to see it's done the job :-)

Yes, thank you Marky, and I'm very pleased with the result. See picture 1
on:
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/mphearnorama/Aerials/photo?authkey=sNZUGuCabZk#5055749804790526306

As you will have deduced from the above I tried a wideband Televes X43 for a
few days. It worked OK except poor signal quality on mux A. Your Group A
aerial pulled in all muxes at 100% signal quality - and it has completely
solved the problem of pigeon guano on my conservatory.

Thank you again :-)).

Glad to be of service. It just shows how poor wideband aerials can be
at the lower end of the frequency spectrum. Actually, the Televes X43
widebands are set up to perform best at the top end. They are sols as
CD/W aerials.

There must be some other factor at work there because the HD mux on Channel
31 is 64 QAM as well, and lower power than any of the ordinary muxes.

It's a shame to see that the ITV HD mux on Channel 27 has disappeared. Is
that the end of it, or is the ITV HD trial going to continue sometime? BBC
HD is becoming quite a full service, showing programmes like Torchwood which
are not simulcast on any of the other BBC channels, and of course it's on
Sky HD as well as Crystal Palace. It's a pity that the ITV HD service isn't
like that too. It seems that ITV just can't keep up with the competition
these days, what with that and closing down the ITV News Channel. I think
they need to pull their socks up.

There's no longer a regulator with any balls to force them to.
