Unquestionably, it appeared that fitness was the reason for his never being able
to land a blow, as the pace wound up; and you want well-prepared NH ground for
him to be seen at his very best (the worse the ground, the more it cancels out
his speed advantage) - this track, though officially good to yielding, had been
under water in places 2 weeks previous.
The problem is, he was fit enough to win it last year, so it's a pretty small
"window", it seems, when to catch him, punting-wise. He jumped well, however.
And I thought - seeing afterwards what he had (or, indeed, hadn't) under him at
the time - that Ruby Walsh looked very good on FP.
