Not the bookies. If he 'stayed' he'd win. There's not a quicker horse in the
race, nor a quicker jumper. Flagship Uberalles, on the other hand...

Let's see who turns up, first of all. The shadow SMB casts over the race may
affect the eventual turn-out, and not without reason, either.

Ive already put my head on the block and said Florida Pearl would hump
it. He's definitely the one to be on, forget last Sat. The dogs in the
street knew he wasn't race fit, and Willie Mullins will he won't he
hasn't fooled anybody. The plan was always the King George with Alexander
Banquet taking his chance in the Gold Cup. Be lucky. Nev

First race of the season (early in the season, too), fitness is *the* issue.
And Looks Like Trouble's trainer/jockey seemed to have a game plan, in making it
a right good test. But the problem for those that back Florida Pearl, in any
race, is the little he finds off the bridle.

Unquestionably, it appeared that fitness was the reason for his never being able
to land a blow, as the pace wound up; and you want well-prepared NH ground for
him to be seen at his very best (the worse the ground, the more it cancels out
his speed advantage) - this track, though officially good to yielding, had been
under water in places 2 weeks previous.

The problem is, he was fit enough to win it last year, so it's a pretty small
"window", it seems, when to catch him, punting-wise. He jumped well, however.
And I thought - seeing afterwards what he had (or, indeed, hadn't) under him at
the time - that Ruby Walsh looked very good on FP.
