I must admit that I won't greatly miss John McCririck, though I /will/
miss John Francome. However Mick Fitzgerald should make a pretty good
substitute. I'm glad that Jim McGrath (the English one), Simon Holt,
Emma Spencer, the lovely Alice Plunkett and Tanya Stevenson are all
being retained. While Nick Luck will I am sure do a good job of sharing
the presenting duties with Ms Balding, I'll be sorry to see Mike
Cattermole and - especially - Alastair Down go. Coverage of the
Cheltenham Festival in particular won't seem the same without Down.
And what were they thinking of when they decided to sign Rishi Persaud?
I don't know what it is about him, but I find him intensely irritating.
(And I get the impression that most of those he interviews feel the same
way but are too polite to say.)

It is Francome I will miss. Who will now be the Horseman on the
programme? I would much sooner see the smug self satisfied Jim McGrath
leave. Oh, and bring back Barry's Bismark.

Francome and McGrath made a good pairing IMO because Francome appeared
to
defer to McGrath's judgement in some things. Whether he'll get
the same chance to be quite so smug with Mick Fitzgerald sat beside
him going at it at nineteen to the dozen is another matter.

Except from what's being said about him, given half a chance he can
talk the hind legs off a donkey. Unlike with Francome who at least
let Jim McGrath get a word in. Francome and McGrath seemed to make
a good pairing.

Cattermole was like a breath of fresh air when he joined. I thought
the idea was that he was going to replace Derek "refinery" Thomson.
Tastes vary of course and I always found Alastair Down a bit on
the pompous side myself, dunno. The best of them all for the
traditional side IMO was Oaksey. True story - I saw him once
at Paddington Station buying a sandwich for the train from a
kiosk called "The Upper Crust". One of those times you
wished you had a camera

As with a lot of them, he seems to ask far too many questions
when a trainer jockey or connections are clearly desparate to
get away, to sort out the next race or whatever.
