What next... Elton John and Sting refusing to do concerts because
street buskers don't make enough to live comfortably on? A top heart
surgeon refusing to do transplants until the NHS pay compensation to
medical school drop-outs? It's ridiculous. It's market forces and
these players are paid what they deserve (or more than they deserve
considering the financial states of most small clubs). If they don't
earn enough, they should get another job, like the rest of us have to.

I understand the argument. The PFA want a larger amount of money than
they already get. Even though their players already reap the benefits
of TV cash by getting inflated wages etc.

Does anyone?
Has an argument actually been made?
It's all about Taylor making a name for himself. I've got a name for
him......

Cheers,

Legally the PFA are not entitled to even a penny of this money. This strike
action is nothing more than a protection racket. Added to this is that the
current TV deal isn't working, and the TV companies are losing money due to
over saturation and, in the case of ITV's "The Premiership"m utterly abysmal
coverage. Some pay-per-view Nationwide league games have had more in the
ground that those watching at home.
Have the PFA published detailed accounts of what they spend their money on?
Remember that recently they spent close to £2,000,000 on an LS Lowry
painting. The money that they pay to bail out clubs in financial hardship
has to be paid back, so this doesn't count.
The only way for this sorry matter to be resolved is for Gordon Taylor to
resign. He is more arrogant, greedy and stubborn than Douglas Craig, the
York City chairman, which is saying something. Taylor appears to be on a
personal ego trup, nothing more.
If the strike does eventually go ahead, we'll only end up with players
moaning about fixture conjestion. And if the strike goes ahead, I will stop
attending matches for good and go to Rugby League games instead.

I've a few as well. He's even more loathsome than Tony Blair!
I just see that that clown Taylor has refused a second ballot. What a

Now, that feels better.
This is true of course, and down to the hideous re-fragmentation of the
subscription TV market. Many people who would like to watch Nationwide games
cannot, if they can't get ITV Sport through their provider. Given that Sky
Digital have become the biggest provider, and they don't carry ITV Sport,
this is a real problem.
I'd hardly call over-saturation an issue though. Your average viewer has
much less football to watch now for his basic subscription than he did under
the last deal.
And (to keep things on-topic) there's not enough hentai.

Nobody meddles with the Scottish miners. Emperor Hadrian had seen the

Uh, no they don't. The FA has offered significantly more money than
the PFA currently get. The PFA want the same PERCENTAGE of the TV
money as they got under the lst deal, which obviously was far less
than ITV/SKY are paying now.In actual terms the PFA are better off
under the new deal.
Apparently it's all sorted out now anyway. I'm not sure of the exact
details, but it would seem that the FA have said that they're sorry and that
they never meant all the horrible things they said in the heat of the
moment, and the PFA have accepted the apology and added that they too will
try to be more tolerant and understanding in future. Both sides have cuddled
and cried and laughed made friends.
Lovely, aint it?

Don't be saft. No one outside of the UK knew who he was let alone had
an opinion.
As one who lived in Sheffield during the strike, I can tell you he
wasn't that popular there either.

Now then, what was it that changed the PFA's mind?
Was it the increase in the offer from £50m to £52.5? That 2 and a
half bigguns? The 5% increase in the offer when the PFA wanted 80%?
Or was it the legal proceedings that they knew they couldn't win?

It was much, much worse than that. They did, like, a medley, incorporating
the old and new stuff into one twenty minute musical extravaganza. Really,
it didn't work, and most of the audience just felt embarrassed by the end.
It was painful to watch, and you could just tell that as the performance
ended, to be met not with rapturous applause and cheering but an eery
silence punctuated only by the sound of someone coughing at the back, the
band wanted the ground to open up and swallow them.
Fortunately, and due to a sudden and inexplicable shift in the nature of
three dimensional space, the ground _did_ open up and swallow them, and the
crowd went wild. To this day, no-one knows if that was part of the show or
an unfortunate side effect of too much rock and roll in one go.
Joe
