FOOTBALLERS REMANDED OVER NIGHTCLUB FRACAS

Tuesday March 19 2002

Three footballers have appeared in court in connection with an alleged
assault on a nightclub doorman.

Chelsea's John Terry, 22, and Jody Morris, 23 and Wimbledon's Desmond Byrne,
20, were remanded on conditional bail to appear before Middlesex Guildhall
Crown Court on April 9.

They appeared before London's Horseferry Road Magistrates Court.

Terry is accused of wounding with intent and having a glass bottle as an
offensive weapon during an alleged fracas at the private members Wellington
Club in central London on January 4 this year.

He faces a separate count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Byrne is also charged with having a bottle as an offensive weapon.

All three men are accused jointly of affray.

The trio, whose addresses cannot be published for legal reasons, did not
enter any pleas and reporting restrictions were not lifted.

If they did it I hope they go to prison, don't worry mate I don't walk round
with 'blue tinted' glasses, just a shame so many went round with 'white
tinted' ones eh?
Any act of violence should be punished, I'd expect it if some nutter down
the road kicked up in a pub and i'd expect it of footballers too.
Sadly ,as was proven in the Leeds case, being a millionaire can get you off
the most serious of charges, however compelling the evidence.............

A combination of too much money, and not enough common sense.
We're hardly in a position as fans to judge.
Though appropriately enough I'd only heard of John Terry in this incident,
not the Wimbledon player.

So, the price of fame eh?

I notice the liar Bowyer hasn't signed a new contract and is playing shite.
I stand by my original remarks after the trial.

the problem these days is that premier Div (and some of the other divisions)
footballers are treated like Gods walking with the rest of us.
they are given free drinks, free goods, free entrance to clubs etc...
On top of all of the free items, they are paid enormous salaries over what
the game actually is, a game.
they have so much money and do not know what to do with it.
Add to that their God like status, then they feel they can get away with
murder (as in the case of O.J. simpson)
I just wish something could be done world wide over salaries, Is say, Zola
worth 1,000 + times the salary of say, a nurse working in cancer care??
have we, as supporters brought this sad state of affairs on our game?

The God like status given to top players transcends every sport. In the USA
OJ was treated just like a Premier Div footballer in terms of adulation.
