The balance of rain and snow hasn't passed 50/50 so far in Wishaw, it is
getting there though.
Bitterly cold wind and a horrid morning.
I do expect snow at times today here, particularly later when the main
precipitation heads south once more. Whether it will lie is another matter
entirely as the ground is utterly sodden.
No doubt about the fact that higher areas locally will be heading up to
there knees in it already.
Interesting day ahead.
The timelapse footage may be worth a peek at today.

This is not a criticism just a comment ,your note re snow not lying because
the ground is sodden is irrelevant !,sorry, whether the ground is dry or
wet if the temp is above freezing the snow will not stick ! Get near to
zero and you will soon get a cover ...enjoy

Pretty wet stuff here in Aboyne too. Heavy snow one minute and back to
rain the next. Weird

Very true of course Ron, I guess I was saying that I don't expect it to
become cold enough. Not today anyway, perhaps tonight.

There have been periods when snow overtook sleet this morning, but all very
wet stuff.
Perhaps the most foul day for the time of year I can remember in my life,
constant driving snow/sleet/rain on a bitterly cold and strong wind that's
almost gale force.
Interesting warnings out. I can well imagine complete whiteout's on ground
above 1500ft or so, perhaps lower.

My sister in Glencoe reports her location is snow-free now after a temporary
blizzard this morning. She estimates the snow line is around 800 feet at the
moment, the A82 southbound is closed/ blocked and some cars may be stuck on
rannoch moor. I do hope they were rescued before their cars were burried.

5.30pm and now the snow is finally taking over. Still very wet at this
stage, but the temperature is starting to trundle downwards. Still a degree
or so to fall before I can see anything sticking. And it'll have to fall a
bit further before it's dry enough to blow around.
Must be hellish on the M8 over Harthill and the M74 over Beatock right now.

Temperature still falling, but still to high for the snow to take hold. The
wind has eased quite a bit in the last hour, but with the air getting ever
whiter outside it's looking pretty wild!
Already broke one record today, this is now the wettest March day I've ever
recorded. One of the easier targets mind you.
I'm working tonight and have real doubts about whether I'll be able to get
home in the morning.

Snow settling on most surfaces now and changing through a slushy cover to a
white one. Particularly windward surfaces.
The wind has however eased a great deal this evening, so Blizzards are
unlikely here unless it gets up again.

Keep the reports coming you Scots! Very interesting to match what you
are saying with the radar and satellite imagery - and reports on other

Cromarty Firth - blowing a hooley - approx 15 kts - NNE. The sleet and
hail gave up at 1700hrs and it's been "dry" here at Udal Bay since
then. Woodburning stove is pulling well and cat flap requires kicking

Not everybody will know that 'teuchat' is the Doric name for a lapwing.
Teuchat storms are said to coincide with the return of the lapwings to
northern Scotland around the end of March or beginning of April.

And very different here on the North Pennines. It's been wet, best
part of an inch today but that isn't unusual. In and out of the hill
fog, meh. Bit breezy up to F5 around 1400 and for the last few hours,
F5 isn't unccommon either. Temp above 5C for quite a few hours at
midday, steady near 4C since 1600 or so but it's now 2.8C and
something hardish is hitting the windows, sleet maybe? There has been
some very wet sleet in the rain today but nothing to really note.

So far nothing of the threatened weather has materialised. It's
windy, but I wouldn't describe it as 'blowing a hooly'.
Temperature is a degree or two above zero, and there's drizzle,
but no snow.

The lights have flickered several times during the evening.

Not so this morning. About 4cm of wet snow so no drifting as such
just splattered on any NE'ly facing surface. Min -0.2C currentl 0.3C
and fine wet snow. The temp rise is allowing great sheets of the
splat to fall off the face of the house.

Road is tri-tramlined slush. I don't think I'll regret taking the
winter tyres off last week, even though the summer ones really are
cr@p in the cold and snow.
