One of the problems with water in the junction box it runs down the cable
(inside) into the back of the TV.
This does happen.
Wet patches on the carpet and you blame the cat.

One should put a drip loop into the down-cable run to let most of the
rainwater flow off the cable. As for the junction box itself, fill it with a
silicone compound to prevent ingress.

Obviously I didn't make it clear that the water was getting into the body of
the aerial, not the cable run. If you look here

you will see that the fins stick out from a two piece body. This was where
the water was getting in. It still does with the new one but it hasn't as
yet got to any of the aerial internal electrical gubbins in the body.

Is the body of the aerial screwed together and can you get into it? If so I
would fill that with silicon compound before screwing it back together.
Comments about drip loops for down-cables still stands though.

I can't see any way to get the thing apart in such a manner as to be able to
put it back together so that it would work. I have the old one, they didn't
want to put me to the bother of returning it, and I might well try to split.
The obvious way to seal it would be to run a bead of silicon in the joint
between the two halves and I may well do this when I can raise the
enthusiasm. The manufacturer/importer/whatever know that this occasionally
happens and they were quite happy to replace mine. I think that steps have
been taken to remedy the fault.
The comments about the drip loops were noted but already implemented,
thanks.
