Basically, we went for a trip to Tesco at the weekend... thats from
Marsworth to Leighton Buzzard. Now that gave me an oportunity to get
bored on two of the long pounds, so i decided to give the old girl some
whelly.
Now, our normal progress down the canals is not what you would call
brisk but we can keep up with the walkers, mainly because the engine
burns alot of oil, starts to get hot, burns off the oil coating the
cooling fins, lots of smoke, very unpleasant burning carbon fallout
from exhaust.
Being bored i thought, 'i wonder how fast she will go' even if only for
a short time, so the normal one and a half turns of the speed wheel was
gradually wound a further three turns!!! and she can move, almost to
jogging speed, before the blue haze started from the cooling air etc.
etc. and we had to slow down again.
So, down to the questions,
1)Last autumn i ended up changing the bottom oil control ring on one
cylinder(long story) and know the bores are very oversize. So can i get
the cylinder barrel rebored and oversize pistons, or do they need
sleeving back to original.
2)Ed Bowden has been recommended (local to us) but i don't know how far
he can or is willing to go down the re-building route.
3)We recon Peter Thompson re-built the engine in the late seventies,
should i ask him about warantee...(it is a Lister after all)(only one
equivalent trip to the moon and back)...
4)How on earth did they stop this thing when it was fully loaded going
that quick?..(answer to that may be the mis-shape of the bows)
