I've decided to get into walking/mountaineering and would be grateful
for any contact information on mountaineering/walking clubs in the
Scottish Borders/North Northumberland area?
I live right on the border just outside Norham which is near
Berwick-upon-Tweed.
I found one useful book titled 'the border country. A Walker's guide
by Alan Hall'.
Coincidentally I'm also into photography and astronomy and wondered
whether there might be any groups combining these interests with
walking? it's been too cloudy to see Mars clearly over the past two
nights :-(
Thanks, David

Not as far as I'm aware. I've tried discussing landscape photography on
various photo groups in the past without much success. Most people seem to
prefer discussing equipment to actual photography and of the few that do
like to discuss photography, even fewer seem interested in landscapes.
As a result, landscape photography does get discussed on this group from
time to time. Although some would argue that it's off topic, I've always
maintained that it's on topic since many walkers carry cameras and walking
is integral to landscape photography. By definition, most landscape
photographers are necessarily walkers, so it's appropriate to this group
IMO.
There are a number of serious landscape photographers who post regularly
here, and many more who are less serious but still very enthusiastic about
it. Many have websites and regularly add photos of their walks. Most have
links to their sites in their sigs.
Check out Google Groups for past discussions about photography here, for
example;

So if you have any questions about landscape photography, just go ahead and
ask, you'll probably get a better answer here than in a dedicated
photography group.
As for astronomy, that also gets mentioned, since some of us are in the
habit of camping wild in the hills and that gives great opportunities for
stargazing, although I've never heard of anyone packing a 16" Dobsonian in
their rucksack! Dedicated astronomy groups are better for technical stuff,
but anything visible with the naked eye may get a mention here, such as
eclipses and meteor showers, and even especially bright planets.

Try
They are probably a bit further south than you would want but will
probably know if there are other clubs nearer to you.
