I need a usb cable for my Garmin Etrex Vista C ... and I am runnning
Windows XP
I have looked online but got bogged down as to where is the best place
to go.
I need it asap .. like Friday morning at the latest.
Any help appreciated.

Its just a standard USB to Mini-USB lead.
They are completely standard, so anything from any device will work.
Standard PC accessory/lead vendor, either real-world or on-line.
I must have half a dozen kicking around various devices, and just leave one
attached to my PC at all times.

My garmin 60CSx just uses the bog standard mini USB cable that I share it
with my camera.
There must be a shop near to where you live that'll sell them...or heaven
forbid a PC World.

Thanks Nigel
Have tried all the cables I have ..no luck ..
I will try vendors.

That's the great thing about IT standards; there are so many to choose
from.

Yeah, it's the one shaped a bit like this you need.

I've come across three different mini USB <grr>
Whilst on the subject, why didn't they make it obvious which way up
the big flat end of a USB connector goes?

The side with the trident on it is up, unless you have one with
nothing marked on it as I have :)

I've got them with tridents on both sides.
And 'up' ain't much good when the sockets are fitted vertically, or even
upside down .. the problem is as much with the sockets as the plugs.

Yes, but that was before the recession. They are cutting back on
tridents to save money.

There goes that theory then :) All the ones I have here on my desk
only have them on the top side.
stupidly expensive, but a local real shop might have one, PC World:
Product code: 657363
more reasonable, Dabs.com
quicklinx: 401NWS
Or in my town, the shop ;-)

To clarify: if the USB sockets are vertically oriented the, trident is
either on the left or the right looking from the front, and either on
the right or the left looking from the rear.

What's a trident?
I've found Cannon cables work, but not Nokia cables.
Many petrol stations sell a cheap in-car charger with a set of
universal USB adapters for mobile phones for a fiver - none of these
have ever fitted any of my phones, but they do fit my Garmin.

It's a dots and arrow symbol on a USB plug or socket.
It's also some kind of aeroplane but a Britannia is better. :-)
<facepalm>
A spear with three spikes.
You know, Neptune has one, some gladiators were given them . . .
In this case, the three-branched symbol associated with USB.

That would be my observation too that my garmin cable is different
from my nokia cable which one is the more standard.
I got a cable from Maplin off the shelf
Mike P
The Garmin cable is mini-USB, the Nokia is micro-USB.
Mini USB was the original standard, and is commonly used on cameras and
MP3 players etc.
But micro USB is a new standard, and becoming common on mobile phones.
Most of the phone manufacturers are now standardizing on micro-USB for
charging.
