We were discussing walking on ice yesterday with friends, and Matthew said
his parents used to put wool socks over the shoes/boots and it gave good
holding on ice. Not sure about using smartwool socks at their price, but
maybe modified sleeves off old woolen jumpers - must be a few in charity
shops.
