But has an element of truth. Modern society is on a knife edge of "just in time" supplies. It wouldn't take much to knock it of kilter. In general this country has very localised events and the people in the affected areas can rely on the resources of unaffected areas to support them. This may not always be the case... In my view anyone with any sense has at least a few days, preferably over a week, of non-perishable food in store and rotated with the day to day food so it is maintained "in date". Those with a combi and thus no CW storage tank should seriously consider a backup water supply and that isn't just a case of 500ml bottles of water. Every person requires over 2l of water/day to remain healthy, family of 4 for a week is 56l and that doesn't include anything for cooking and associated activities. -- Cheers Dave.

The stock images were taken at Kelvedon Hatch.
We always have plenty of tinned food and pasta, etc it keeps forever and it so cheap, we don't stock pile it, but when its like 25p a tin or something why buy 2 or 3, I just put 20 odd tins in the trolly, other half moans, but then she's happy to eat it when we've run out of fresh stuff and its a sunday and the shops are shut!

I live in rural Mid-Wales... I have a stream running through my garden and three shotguns

He may well know you have the guns, he may not know you issue threats about using them ...

Where's that threat then? You *chose* to interpret my remark about water availability and quality as some sort of threat relating to my guns.
I suggest you (a) read the original context, (b) note the smiley and (c) lighten up.
Round here, we're more worried about the threat to society posed by Bluetongue at the moment. Vaccine still not available in any quantity and movement restrictions still in place.
I did, and at the time I thought "I wonder if he'd get the licence renewed so easily if he went round saying things like that in RL, rather than on usenet", apparently it came across the same way to three others too, but I originally decided not to post.

Ah well, a couple of harsh winters might be required to keep it down.

Well of COURSE I wouldn't say stuff like that in the real world, even if I were carrying a big fuck-off sign with a flourescent smiley on it.
