Back in the 1960s I remember a strange radio mast that was located on
the top of the North Downs just east of Vigo Village, which is near
Wrotham, Kent. It is not there now and I can't find anyone else who
remembers it. There is another mast about half a mile to the west just
behind Fairseat telephone exchange, that is still there.
Back in the late 60s or early 70s, I had a conducted tour of the BBC
transmitting station on nearby Wrotham Hill, and I do remember the
engineer referring to the mystery mast as the Eurovision link. It did
appear to have some weird square or triangular shaped dish that was
aimed approximately to the east.
There must have been a building to house the equipment on the site so
I would be interested to know what, if anything remains.
Any information gratefully received.
Thanks
