Have just returned from a fantastic evening which raised over £200 for the
scouts, showed the kids that fundraising could be fun and got a lot of
parents in the same room at the same time!

The Scouts held an art auction at an evening meal they cooked and served
themselves, selling paintings created by themselves on a 1960's modern art
theme (i.e. lots of paint splashed and sprayed on a large canvas in a
prettyish pattern). The sale was excellently conducted by our ADC Scouts who
did a great job of managing the bidding.

The 3-course menu had Prawn Cocktail, Vegetable Soup or Melon Slice for
starters followed by Spaghetti Bolognese, Mackerel or something else with a
choice of Profiteroles or Apple Pie for dessert. The scouts did a great job
of waiting on tables and serving the food and wine, clearly enjoying
themselves by scaring us as they threatened to spill hot soup in our laps
and giving us extra servings of everything!

A good night and definitely worth doing for the social element alone.

Sounds like a good plan, I might use the idea for our Unit parents night and
get the ES to wait on their parents :-)

Our Unit XMAS Dinner went reasonably well, full Turkey Dinner cooked at the
HQ, but it was absolutely freezing so Dinner was cold by the time the last
one was served. It was so bad that we ended up sitting round the table
watching DVDs of Little Britain and Dog Soldiers until 3AM, with most people
in their sleeping bags with the hoods up!

The best bit was they did the washing up without being told and put all the
stuff away next morning without a single attempt to bunk off!! Amazing!
