Thanks in advance
Good advice.

I've always been happy with Noble's. I can also say that I'd much rather
have their racing rules expert on my side than the other guy's.
Noble settled a dinghy claim with me in no time and with no hassle.
I'm content with Noble Marine. They seem to be pretty fair about
coverage for boats in drying berths and the like, which is a
good thing for me. I've not had reason to put in a claim, mind
(and Ihope this state of affairs continues)

Feng Shui: an ancient oriental art for extracting
money from the gullible (Martin Sinclair)
I had a prang 2 years ago - as always with these things on a Friday
afternoon in a far away place (Grimsby!). So I turned to my broker, Bishop
Skinner - who are the RYA/RNLI 'official' insurer and who claim to be all
things to all boating men, as they offered a 24/7 helpline. They turned out
to be completely useless. First they gave me the phone numbers of 3
boatyards; 1 had gone out of business 2 years before, 1 didn't answer the
phone despite repeated attempts, and 1 had 'line unobtainable'. On asking
B&S again I was told that was all they could do.
I was helped by the members of Humber Cruising Club (who are a terrific
bunch of people), and a local guy came the next day and did a good temporary
repair. I phoned B&S again to check that this course of action was OK with
them, and was told by the lad answering the phone that he didn't have the
authority to say, and that no-one else would be available until Monday. I
had to get going, so I did.
B&S eventually sorted out the permanent repair when I got home, but no
better than anyone else could have I would guess. They annoyed me also in
telling me to just get 1 estimate & let them have it. I did, and was told to
book the boat in. They then (with only days to go before the boat was due to
be lifted), said it was too costly, and I had to take it to another
boatyard. This meant I upset a local boatyard, had 2 ferry journeys (I live
on the Isle of Wight and the yard who did the job is in Hamble) to deliver &
collect the boat, and was further delayed by a month.
So on the whole I was not impressed with Bishop Skinner. Others may have
been more lucky.
Brokers Cuthbert Service and Jackson in Glasgow are excellent.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated
Some Marine insurance companies have a recorded message when you call
them that states "Call may be recorded for training porpoises"... ;-)
