I'm thinking of buying a boat in Holland with a marine mortgage and am being
told that I can't get any money until the boats papers are in the financers
hands(!), the boat needs to be part 1 registered (at £600!) and then there's
finding a boat.........The prices I've seen on a few websites make it seem
worthwhile but it seems like a lot of work.

Has anyone got any experience of buying in Holland (with or without a
mortgage) they could share?

Thanks in advance

Bought one in Belgium, but privately.

Problems were how to avoid getting ripped off by the bank in converting
Pounds to Belgium Franks.
There are money changers in Antwerp which will give a very good deal on cash
or on telegraphed funds.
There is always some risk though I guess.
I negotiated the price in pounds and let the seller do the conversion.

Your problems seem to be with the mortgage company rather than anything
else. needing proof of registration to pass over the money..
Try a different mortgage company?

Regards

While I bought my boat in Belgium.. I did look at quite a few in Holland..
especially around South Holland.. Some very good boats around there.. Try
Wakend Oog www.hwo.nl
and De Valk in Bruinisse www.devalk.nl
Hiswa on www.yachtselect.nl as well as the botenbank.nl websites
The first two are used to selling to UK people if you want some assistance.

Yes buying a boat in holland with a mortgage is a bit complicated.
A easy way is organise your mortgage through hwo.
They know the ropes and manage all the paperwork.
The rates on the mortage are reasonable.
Anyway procedure is a little catch 22 like.
Here's a simplified version.
1. boat must be registered in the dutch database ( kadaster ). It gets
registered in your name even though you do not own it
2. then you can get a mortgage for it.
3. now you buy the boat.

Step 1 is where hwo get things done easily.
