Lloyds will insure absolutely anything, and quite often they are quite
reasonable too, back in the late 70's I built a trike and after 2 months of
trying every insurance company and broker in the book I wound up at lloyds,
who insured me for just over a hundred quid, policy delivered within a
couple of days.

Noble Marine and craftinsure.com are the two brokers most people I know
use. Both are experienced in covering race boats. Good luck.

Quick reply from Noble Marine, they won't cover it!
This is fun ;-)
I can now understand why most of the guys on the Mini Transat circuit have
no insurance. But we don't have a main sponsor yet so if something happens
WE PAY!
Anybody else got an idea?
Lucy
Are you honestly surprised nobody wants to cover a Mini Transat? The
risk has to be a lot higher than blue-water cruising, and people
struggle to get cover for that.
Have you asked the class association for advice? I realise they are not
UK-based, but there is no reason you HAVE to use a UK insurer. When I
helped run a class association, we used to recommend a couple of brokers
to new owners.
Failing that, all you can do it keep ringing around the marine brokers
and hope you find someone who will cover it.
It surprises me that event organisers will accept entries from totally
uninsured boats. It is normal in the UK for race organisers to insist
competitors have 3rd party cover - when you enter a race you certify you
have it.
Again, good luck.
Try Leo website forum here http://www.xs4all.nl/~blvrd/ and ask some of the
other Mini guys, failing that why not try Offshore Challenges for some
advice?
Be careful though, do not use any offshore underwriters as we did, you loose
your rig once and they might pay up, crash the boat in to the side of France
in a storm and they wont give you a penny! And avoid a certain chap running
insurance from home in the Selsey/East Wittering area in West Sussex as he
is the broker for such dodgy underwriters.

You are right they probably have 3rd party, but we really want full cover I
am sorry if this was misleading and apologise profusely. ;-(
I am not surprised buy the fact I am ringing and e-mailing around and
welcome any advice.
We knew from the start this would not be easy but it is his dream so it WILL
happen!

Actually the Mini is one of these categories where you seem to still have a
wide age range, but I see what you mean!
