I currently use a spark ignition 5HP outboard in a well on my 22'
boat. It works fine in all conditions. However I recently took my boat
to the Baltic and on several occasions such as the Kiel Canal and a
run out of Nordenay against tide and wind I had to use my engine
extensively. And then of course the wind died right in the centre of
the Deep Water Route in the North Sea. The problem is in Europe no-one
sells Petrol or Benzine by the waterside, I don't think they do in the
UK either, but at least I have a car to get it from a petrol station.
But every Yacht Haven, no matter how small sells diesel. I have done a
search for diesel outboards but can find nothing under 15hp.
I'm wondering how small a marine diesel I can get in both size and
output. The smallest output I have come across is a Petter 5.5 hp.
Does anyone know of any others? I would prefer a small diesel outboard
[say 5hp] if one exists.
Thanks,

Yanmar make a very good 7hp inboard diesel - one of my friends has one finds
it very good indeed.

If you fit a diesel, then fit an aquadrive too - you won't regret it.

It's quoted weight is 93Kg, and the power 4Hp. A normal 4HP is a man
lift. I ain't carrying no 93Kg.....I just found a Honda 5Hp at 28Kg!

Andy.

You think that's fugly? You should see what they drive on the roads of
provincial China - that'd make you proud of one of those outboards!

You can convert all 4 stroke motors to run on LPG, but a two stroke on
a petroil mix cant be converted there would not be any
lubrication....not sure about the injected oil 2 stroke though.
You also need a number of electrically controled fail safe
valves...there will be a system that you can buy off the shelf
somwhere.
Dont attempt to convert(DIY MOCK UP) unless your qued up about the
safety aspects.
A gas conversion without these valves is a time bomb.
ALL THE BEST ...........MARK
