There are so many interests that would like to see Carolyn fall and rendered
dead, but it's not appropriate. She thinks suicide is an option for her.
If she's at risk she needs kept from herself. If she dies it will set off a
chain reaction and ruin some peoples' lives. If she's suicidal she needs
help.
By the same token she isn't entitled a place higher than the rest of
humanity, because she's a human woman. She's not a superwoman endowed with
special powers who reigns over populations and is indispensable to the
survival of the species. She's not that, either.
That's why she's sane to answer the charges. She can write from prison.

She's going to fall anyway; she'll be restricted in an asylum for the
criminally insane until her sentence is expired. She had no business
killing Jane. I know the truth hurts, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.
Consider a 12 year old girl and a 43 year old woman. If I had to choose who
to let live, I'd choose the girl over the woman. If the woman had any
conscience, she'd lay down her life for the girl too. That's the situation.
The girl is Sandy's firstborn.
That's how they set it up, and that's how it's going to work out.
If both sides are reasonable, they can make the best of a bad situation, but
I have my doubts.
