I'm certainly not suggesting that that is the source - poverty, terror
and torture have existed for centuries. I said 'keeping'. The obscene
expenditure on weapons displays, of course, massive fear and
cowardice, but, perhaps even more importantly, it displays contempt
for the poor and for human suffering. The amount spent, almost 5% of
GDP, is more than even the most craven cowards would require -
spending a fraction of it on humanity, instead of death, would be
quite enough to solve world poverty.
