Tyred
Now I remember why I don't change tyres anymore. I decided it was better to take the 21 inch Metzeler MX tyre off the spare wheel I obtained for the Old Gimmer's Hillclimber rather than just cutting the hub out. Don't know why really as it is going to be rebuilt anyway with a 17 or 18 inch rim. My trusty Heyco (from a BMW toolkit)tyre levers are a bit short, and... more »

BMW K series battery
So which one do I go for? The old Varta one is completely fucked so do I replace it with similar or go for a slightly dearer gel one? Bear in mind I might well be taking this bike to the arctic circle this winter so would the gel be a better bet in those conditions?

OT: Paging the Cadwell Park-isti
Any recommendations for a half decent hotel/motel near Cadwell Park? Booked there for a track day in December and don't fancy driving up there at daft o'clock on a Monday morning.

Paging the BMW and touring-isti: R1200GS or other tourers
K's BIL has just asked me about a suitable bike for riding across Oz. He asked specifically about the R1200GS, which I have a vague idea is not a good choice from a reliability POV. ISTR also that some modern BMWs are a bit buzzy. He wants an upright riding position; no Sprots bikes. He'll be ridining about 8 days (I guess each way) and will also want it for the... more »

FOAK: Free email
Free email (as in free beer, I suppose). Switching my elderly mum to a Vodafone PAYG dongle (from dial-up) so she'll need a free POPable/IMAPable email account. Preferably spam-filtered. Years since I've used one so what's the best and what's to avoid (I suppose one or two lines of text-only advertising would be acceptable).... more »

Check out 'BB Chung King and the Buddaheads' on Garageband.com or Youtube. Especially if you like stuff like SRV.

Q's about bikes in Blighty
...and other drive-on-the-left countries such as New Zealand. 1. Do they have the throttle on the left and clutch on the right hand side of the bike? (ie, mirror images of the North American arrangement?) 2. If the throttle is still on the right, how do you wave at other bikers? 3. Do you wave at other bikers at all? Or are there so many on UK roads... more »
