My position was (and, to be honest, largely remains) one of complete ambiguity.

Oh, right.

It is apparently no longer necessary to have done anything noteworthy in
order to be "famous". Or indeed attractive, if KK is anything to go by.
I would despair, but according to L, who is considerably younger than I,
certain sections of the youth of today are similarly pissed off about
it. Someone called Jade Goody seems to score similarly high on the
irritation scale.
PS: Top Tip: at *no* point in *any* discussion of that nature should you
say "who?". Just nod sagely, note the name, and look it up on google
later. I made the mistake of giving the "who?" answer when La Katona's
name was mentioned recently, and was then subject to a half hour
dissertation entitled "fame, and why some saddos don't deserve it", with
reference to "elder statespersons of music who are worthy". It was
entertaining though, that much I will admit to.
PPS: Don't *for fuck's sake* say "we used to have that sort of person in
my day - take George Hamilton for example" ... you will not emerge with
your pride intact, that's all I'm saying.

Heh. We have a perma-tanned sales guy at work who I occasionally refer
to in comparison with George Hamilton. Nobody seems to get the
reference. Then I realise that I work with few people under 40.
I'm not sure this reflects well on me in any way whatsoever.
