Get pissed while you're up one of 'em, pop a few pills for relaxation, text
what friends you have left telling them you won't be coming back, rip off
half your clothes in a bid to keep cool (in a fucking blizzard I might add)
and freeze yourself solidly to the ground.

Suicide? Is it fuck, it's misadventure.

Now call me a cynic, but does topping yourself result in your next of kin
losing out on your pension or not?

Did anyone else see the BBC4 programme last night about Lee Atwater, the man
who was more or less responsible for the election of Reagan and Bush 1? His
methods were used by Bush 2, although he had died in 1991. It's rare that
I applaud anyone suffering a long, lingering, painful and demeaning death -
but in his case I was prepared to make an exception.

Quite. It was interesting how some of his fellow-travellers refused

But that seems to be just as likely for McCain and Obama.

I was further confused by the "successful businessman" and "little
religion", as neither really qualifies for either. I suppose Obama's
income of $4.2 million might qualify him, but McCain's mere $400,000
certainly doesn't. McCain is apparently strongly, but not publicly
religious, and Obama is publicly but not obviously strongly religious.

Your two options appear to be:

"He is a successful civil rights lawyer and author with guts and
determination and little religion."

and:

"He is a successful naval officer with guts and determination and
private religion."

> Obama? he would be as useful a president as Clinton, only worse.

Yers. Funny thing is, after 10 years of slowing economy and increasing
government debt, Clinton took power and the decline & debt reversed.
Then Bush Jnr took over, and the economy slowed, and government debt
increased.

Could have been coincidence, I suppose.

I doubt Simian has any delusions about Clinton. A man of no great
technical ability but a genius for PR, oratory and relationship
management. He got in on a lucky time slot, but that's the nature of
the game. Although to be fair Bush2 has had a significant hand in his
own downturn.

You need to read some unbiased accounts of him. I understand he was a smart
cookie and quite charismatic in person when younger. Shame successors
haven't carried on his goal of deconstructing bloated federal govmint.

But for me he was too old. There should be an age bar. Exactly where it is
placed is probably a function of what age I am when you ask me.

Reagan made the rich richer, the poor poorer, and doubled the federal
deficit in the process.

Isn't that always the way? The Republicans are obsessed with cutting
taxes but are unable to cut spending to match, so they run a deficit
and increase the national debt. The Democrats, who have no such qualms
about taxes, increase them, run at a surplus and reduce the national
debt. Cue another appearance from the Republicans...

No, I referred to his stated principals, NOT the conduct of his

On illegal immigration alone the administration was something of a failure.

Eh? So during his time in office the US managed to undermine several
governments in south America, prop up a few dodgy ones, and all without
waking the pres?

I've heard that if the guy had used a normal bullet, he'd probably have
killed him. Apparently (and I know nothing about guns) you need a gun
barrel designed to fire AP ammunition or bad things happen which mean
the effective stopping power of the bullet is greatly reduced and your
rifling it fucked.

I doubt that handgun had rifling, but yes, if the handgun's not designed
to take AP then you'll suffer a reduction in muzzle velocity.

Also, AP rounds tend to go straight through flesh, whereas other shells
deform more on impact, causing bigger wounds, and also then tend to
bounce around inside you, doing even more damage.

AP rounds do not fragment or deform so I suppose it was less likely to kill

Be fair though; that's your usual answer to anything.

Speed cameras? Shoot 90% of the people. Inflation up? Shoot 90% of
the people. Sainsburys charging too much for haggis? Shoot 90% of the
people.

The bastards!

None of it gets back to the haggis-makers, you know.

In windswept lonely crofts dotted all over the Western Isles there are
people working their fingers to the bone on haggis piecework, turning
out haggis for the rich Southern market. They see about 5% of the final
selling price while all the fat-cats pocket the difference.
Worse, now there is talk of out-sourcing the work to Northumbria, where
there is a plentiful supply of cheap labour, ex-shipbuilders willing to
work for a pound a month and a stottie cake.

Please, take pity on the overworked and underpaid haggis makers and only
shop at Liar Trade haggis shops.

Makers? MAKERS? Haggai are free beasts I'll have you know.

Why they cost so much, costs a lot to employ 200+ workers on the haggai
farms, all walking in synchronisation anti-clockwise round the mountain

heh. When we had our "new" loan subsystem rolled out a couple of years

When I pointed it out, I was asked why it mattered, one way or the
