OT: It sucks being a four-eye

regarding getting another eye test, plus I needed a new pair of glasses
anyway after my main glasses had been run over last Tuesday and are just
a little out of shape.
Given that I have now joined the Age of Reading Glasses I made good use
of their 2-for-1 offers but that was definitely one of these "shit, I
could've bought an SOB for that sort of money". Cute sales girl though,
and she was rather good at her job, too. Not quite in the league of
Graham or Lozzo, but with a bit more experience[1]...
[1] I was going to write "training" but cute girl, training and Lozzo in
the same sentence...

I second this and compliment it with Transitions lenses so that I
don't even need to think about how bright it is, or isn't outside.

I'd only consider transitions lenses on sunglasses, so they go clear
when I go indoors. There's no way I'd want my normal specs going dark
without my choosing - there are few things more twatty than being the
only person wearing sunglasses when it's not actually that bright.

I fear you're missing my point.
By "that bright", I mean bright enough to warrant wearing sunglasses
without looking like a third-rate Roy Orbison impersonator. Which is
almost certainly less bright than the point whereupon the lenses would
start to go dark.

Transition lenses work on UV light. They will darken even on overcast
days.

have to squint when it's uber-sunny. My normal specs filter UV anyway.

Or *not* darken when behind glass (e.g. windscreens) that absorb UV, even

The clear lenses in my normal specs take care of that.
Though, frankly, the idea of UV light fucking my eyes hadn't even
crossed my mind. Is that really why people wear sunglasses? I've just
done a quick straw poll in the office and we're unanimous anti-
squinters.

Well, I had my eyes tested today and quoted ~�350 for reactolite
varifocals in a memory metal frame
I went down the road to Fairplay and got quoted �125 for the same thing
