experience for me - I left a job that (on reflection) I realised I

It did go really well for you and of course I was glad when it did. Be
interesting to see what the market is like now though, particularly in CA. I
don't know if the tech sector there has caught the same cold. Zymurgy will
provide pointers on the situation here soon.
Some folk came back from the East Coast yesterday. Petrol back down to $1.50
a gallon (oh if only) but a very fucked economy with white and blue collar
feeling it. OTOH you can get a nice 2 bed Condo near Disney for £75k-ish.
It won't appreciate for 10 years though.

This is in fact and rather unusually for you apparently exactly the case
but it stared happening before this lot kicked off and was in part due

When I quit the power company I went to school, received an AA in
electronics engineering and went to work for a small company that made
computer controlled radio equipment. I was there for 13 years. Things
went down the tubes and in the end it was the owner and I trying to keep
it viable.
We both ended up at Cylink doing various things involving data
encryption. That lasted 5 years.
I struck out on my own doing electrical work and determined it sucked
and went to work for someone else.

After my crash, they x-rayed my leg and found a smallish foreign object
in my left leg. The doctor asked if I'd been shot or whatever thinking
it may have been something along those lines. I assured her that I

I didn't mention this earlier today, but I went into work intending to
resign today ... there's been a load of political and other crap going
on, plus I've been forced to work with salesdroids, who are, without a
shadow of a doubt, the laziest bunch of clueless cunts I've ever
encountered. I'd forgotten how bad they are, as a breed (I'm talking
IT/Systems Salesdroids here).
My boss was kind enough, in the middle of a shitty day himself, to take
time out to talk to me about the piss poor way they've been harping on,
suggest a way forward that involved leaving them out of the loop, and
thus invigorated, and greatly cheered, I decided to stay on, for a bit
at least.
It also helped that I had a conf call with a chap known for being one of
the most difficult sods anywhere in the Healthcare sector, and it going
splendidly well, thus winning the admiration of my colleagues ... I
rather liked the chap, TBH. Struck me as straight-talking and
demanding, rather than difficult.

Well, i'm certainly not knee deep in offers, and the salaries are a
bit depressing, but if you're prepared to travel anywhere (which I
can) then there's a bit of work out there.
It was dire in December, but things seem to be picking up slowly.
Problem is, eveone has battened down the hatches to ride it out (as
both individuals and companies) so no job movements mean few job
opportunities being created.
We'll see. I have a couple of irons in the fire ...

I have dived on a wreck in the North Sea about 15 miles out in a not too
bad sea state. Come up 50 minute later and it was rough plus during our
safety stop under my DSMB we had drifted a couple of hundred meters. It
took the RIB a long time to find us in worsening sea conditions. Not
good.
J and I have dived from a day boat out of El Gouna in the Red Sea. There
were four of us on a drift dive. Once we had submerged the crew went of
for some Rug Butting. They thought we had gone anti clock wise around a
large coral reef when in fact the current had shifted and we were
drifting clock wise. It was close to 40 minutes after we surfaced that
they found us drifting towards Saudi. I always carry a buddy line now as
one of the guys had one and we lashed ourselves together.
Why I got the locator was when we dived the southern Egyptian Red Sea
from Zabargad [1].
Some of the dive site were close to the Hala'ib Triagle.
If you drift into that area the days boats wont come and get you. It's
pirate territory. But the military will, hence the sat locator.
