Please remain alert to other road users when cycling. Don't use headphones
and cycle at the same time. You need all your senses to remain
safe..........

A student who left a motorcyclist with a broken collar bone has been found
guilty of careless cycling.

The unusual charge was brought against the Clare College student after he
caused a crash on Queen's Road while cycling wearing headphones.

Clare is the college.
Queen's is the road.
Lee is the cyclist.
Emily Nice is the reporter.

I wish the cyclist had been called Jin-Hyung Hu instead. Then you
could have said "Hu's the cyclist".

Although the article reports:

"Pc Stuart Appleton, the prosecuting officer, said: “If cyclists are
going to wear headphones we advise them to keep the volume at a
sensible level and take extra care on the roads.”

But you know better.

Do you actually cycle yourself? It appears you are unaware of how
little one can hear over the wind noise.

Do you drive with your car window open too?

Yes, wind noise is absolutely deafening at 15mph isn't it.

Yes, I do cycle and can't say that wind noise is a significant issue at the
speeds I cycle at.

Often ameliorated by turning the head slightly. Unless wearing headphones.

Summer and winter we mostly cycled to school from the age of 10, right
across Aberdeen. I don't remember the roads being any quieter than now.
That was the age shorts or a kilt became optional and long troos could be
worn.

Certainly wasn't the case when I was a kid. I think I did the test

Actually, it depends on the design of headphones. Some styles actually
reduce wind noise (others increase it).

The mentality seems to be that it's dangerous because there's too

It certainly taught me a thing or two - but not as much as the screech
of brakes and a bellow of rage as the truck about to overtake me had
to do a stoppie as I decided to go for the right hand offshoot from
the nearside kerb. I was about aged seven or so, so had the road sense

The old cycling proficiency test was not worthless but it did embody
some 1970s car-centric thinking, in the Tufty mould. Modern cycle
training is different and better. My kids did their Bikeability
courses at school but could have passed the test without doing the
course as they were both already experienced road cyclists (actually
one did his a year or two early in the holidays, just for fun, but did
it again with the rest of the class on the basis that riding a bike
was more fun than English).

For providing kids with some basic instruction in the rudiments of
riding a bicycle on the roads before they try it at school-run time.

Are you sure about that? Is it not time to consider that perhaps
Darwinism might just may be a better solution and that they should be
allowed to roam freely and in the absence of learned skills, trust to luck
to keep them alive? Or not, as the case may be.

A bit of both I suppose. I haven't checked but judging by the reaction of
the world it seems to me that there is a fair chance it qualifies as peer
reviewed science and as some political theories hold that there is such a
thing as better breeding and that for the overall good of humanity they
should not relinquish power to the proles then that as well. Although
having said that we do have to consider that as far as stuff goes defining
what is or is not a source for political philosophy is a bit like me
predicting what you would get in your bag after a visit to the pix and mix
section of woolworths if they were still trading. All I know is is that
it would be stuff you like.

Walk to school? Are you stark staring mad, - the world is full of
pedophiles so every child must be delivered to the school door in an
armoured Range Rover.

Hello Porker.

Any news from the court?

Why were you unwilling to take the witness stand?

--
Porky Chapman bragged about the fact that he was taking someone he
had accused of harassing him through the court system.
All of a sudden his court case is off. Was it because Porky was scared of
being cross-examined and having to answer questions under oath?
Or did the CPS sling the case out because of Porky's "evidence"?
Why won't he tell us?

Stalking can be defined as the willful and repeated following, watching
and/or harassing of another person. Most of the time, the purpose of
stalking is to attempt to force a relationship with someone who is
unwilling or otherwise unavailable.

This has absolutely no connecction with the subject at hand.

Now.now Porker. How about coming clean over your tired and emotional court
case which appears to have floundered.

It really is remiss of you keeping the update from all those people who
supported you originally.

I'm not convinced about you pulling the plug. It is much more likely that the
CPS did not "believe" your "evidence". Whatever - can you tell us?

Whatever the cause - has there been any progress on wasting police time?

Yes, but my sauna only fits one, although I'd like to cram in the five

Unlike other crimes, which usually involve one act, stalking is a series
of actions that occur over a period of time.
