Guitar rig 3, fom Native Instruments. Not a hardware solution, but a PC based
simulator, and it is Free ! It was on a recent computer music dvd.

It's amazing, really.

I don't seem able to find V3 for free? Also, how do I connect guitar to PC?

TIA

Whatever you get for that money will sound fucking horrible.

I use this.

http://line6.com/podstudiogx/

Might solve your effects problem to an extent if you're mainly playing
to yourself through headphones.

Alternative is to connect direct to PC...

I've plugged guitar into amp, and then fed the headphones into the Line In
on the PC, but it's very quiet...

Why is this?

If I feed it straight to my speakers (MP3 connection), then it's fine.

TIA

Because you still need something like this:

Will this remove the latency problem I've now got?

For that money, you won't be getting anything worth having.

Zoom? That's just another way to spell "Shite".

BOSS is the way to go IMO.

Buy shite once and you'll have to buy it again.

Until you come to playing live. That's when it all turns to shit. Even the
POD's are crap in comparison to a decent FX unit designed with live playing
in mind.

Indeed. Perfect for 'phones and for recording, but that's it for Line
6/POD's.

Messing about really...

Only ever had an acoustic before, and just had electric for Christmas and I
want some different effects.

haha, the more I practice the less processed my sound becomes. Very
true :)
