Seeing as my uncle has a rather nice place overlooking a lake in somewhere
called Los Romanes near La Vinuela, how long would a nice bimble down there
take from Santander ? 2 Days ? Stopping in Madrid overnight sound sensible ?

Would have to look at map, but Santander/Bilbao to my house (45 minutes
north of Malaga) is between 8 - 11 hours depending on tank size.

This is very close to where I last year. I spent 3 days riding back to
Santander taking is The Picos on the way. 2 days is more than adequate
if you don't want to be a tourist, as Paul says, you can do it in one
day if you bash on a bit.

The Picos d' Europa are well worth a diversion, the N 621 Potes -
Unquera is stunning as is the CL601/ M604 from Segovia over the
Peurto de Nacerrada.
You won't be disappointed with any of it though. I'm going back this
year.

Stunning place though.

Brownz eunt Romanes domus?

(as per Life of Brian famous Latin "romanes eunt domus" gag)

1042 kms according to Google Maps. Can be done in a day. An steady 140km/h
on the clock (whatever in mph) on 120 areas should keep you fine safe.

In the warm part of the year a diversion to Picos de Europa is a wise idea.
If not, it can be pretty cold and snowy. Missing Granada any time of the
year would be a shame.

Nice one , thanks you three, two/three days and a bit of sightseeing might
well be in order then. It will be August so I hope it will be warm and not
to rainy.

*gulp*

Then, consider a mesh jacket. I wouldn't recommend leathers at all, unless
they are of the type with drilled small holes.

Except it's been under water lately. We get Granada TV as my aerial is
pointed at the repeater there, and every day lately they've been showing
the old biddies crying their eyes out as their furniture floats away down
the street.

Heh. It always rains in Asturias/Galicia/Euskadi etc. More so than in
Wales.

Down this way it will be 30-40C. Shorts and vest order of the day.
