Hi Guys

I have only been metal detecting for 3 weeks and have been concentrating on
a farm in the West Midlands. My question is, I keep finding small pieces of
lead, not buck shot from a gun cartridge but pieces as though molten lead
has been spitting around. I have been on 2 large fields now out in the open
and I'm at a loss as to why this lead might keep turning up. Any ideas
anyone?

Thanks.

These sound suspiciously like remnants of lead spoil from old Roman lead
mines in the West Midlands.
The main lead mining areas were located at Plumbul Veramtum, Dudlum Vitae,
and Cannoctae Quidrum.
