I've got the latest PGPSW speed camera files loaded (UK Speed Zoned) and
I've got Liz Whittacker's voice as the warning, ie, "Warning! GATSO ahead -
speed limit xx mph" and that all works brilliantly.
However, even when there are no speed cameras around (so no warning needed
at all), the darn thing gives out three "bongs" at 40mph, 50mph, 60mph and
80mph.
I've never set it to warn me about anything, and I've certainly never asked
it to bong at me. How can I stop it - but still keep voice warnings for
speed cams and voice directions???
Sorry, should have said - TomTom GO700 App. V7.903,
Western_and_Central_Europe map V720.1803, GPS V1.21, Boot 5.4201
TIA
Chris

I've got them, plays 'tally ho!'
Bloody nuisance aren't they.
Thanks for your efforts guys. I've been away for a few days so didn't have
access into here but I can say that someone on the pocketgpsworld forum came
up with the right answer. It seems that some versions of the TomTom app have
speed limit warnings - as pointed out here by roberthorsey :o)
TomTom knows that a certain road should be, for example, 30mph and will
sound the bongs at about 35mph. To disable it, go into "Change Preferences"
> "Safety Preferences" and de-select "Warn when driving faster than
allowed".
With the way they get some of the speed limits incorrect around this
part of the world, it's a pretty useless setting. What do they do
when they haven't got a speed limit for certain roads, which they
apparently don't on a large number of roads in north Norfolk?
In the Australian version I have (XL340) maximum legal speeds are not given
for quite a lot of roads, in which case it just shows the speed you are
travelling at, without reference to the maximum legal speed. But it is
would be foolhardy to rely on TomTom to keep you legal, since the "known"
speed limits are often wrong. This though, I suppose is up to users to send
in corrections so they get it right.
