A friend and I are starting up a landscape gardening business in Crystal
Palace soon (btw, this isn't spam, honest - I'm sure most people in this
group can diy!).

Trouble is, we want a nice catchy name for ourselves. Any ideas more
original than 'Greenfingers' would be very welcome. You'll get a prize
if we use your idea :-)

'Greenfingers'? You put seedlings in and they grow!
'I really wanted someone to come and redesign and possibly rebuild my
gareden'

'Garden Pictures' `You paint pictures of people's gardens, Oh not for
me, I take photos`

'Gardens by Design' 'Ah, that sounds more like it'
Play on words. "We 'make' gardens by design"

Anything but "Green Shoots"
Ray (In Bromley!)

I did once toy with the idea of the "Green Side Up Turf Company"

Whatever you do use something beginning with 'A' as this will come first in
the yellow pages and more people will call you !
What are your surnames ? maybe you can make a play on words with those ??

I will no doubt be sat on, but I don't think much of Yellow Pages. Word
of mouth is by far the best recommendation. AND, if you have one of
those freebie papers in the area you are covering, advertise in there.
Keep the advert small and put it in each week. I used to use our local
one a lot, and have 'just' started to advertise a new business I am
commencing. The first advert comes out next Thursday. Cost £4.00 for a
circulation of 23,000

There is an art to advertising. I think it was Henry Ford who said,
'Half of my advertising costs are a waste of money, the trouble is I
don't know which half'.

R.N.Shipmates and the H.M.S.Collingwood Association are now know around
the World, and not one penny has been spent on advertising!!

Do you need to have a name which says what you do?

A good play on words would be Crystalis. Nice short name for an emerging
company. Its in the first few lines of the yellow pages (handy when people
are looking for a landscpe gardener) Nd the domain name Crystalis.co.uk is
still available. It also goes well with well with the tag lines like "watch
your dreams emerge".

Martin Harlow and Michael Bartlett (plus Jo Watson as a part timer). Not
a lot to go on, really.

Thanks for all the ideas so far. I'll throw them into our next
brainstorming sesh. So far, I particularly like Crystalis and The Palace
Gardeners, though most of the others are good too.
